About Focus: Fiber 2019
Focus: Fiber is a biennial national juried exhibition of contemporary fiber art. This exhibition is co-sponsored by the Textile Art Alliance of the Cleveland Museum of Art (TAA), and Kent State University Museum.
The mission of TAA is to increase appreciation of the textile arts through lectures, workshops, and exhibitions, and to support the textile collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Juror
Nami Yamamoto (b. Nagoya, Japan) is an interdisciplinary artist working in Philadelphia, PA. Yamamoto received an MFA from Maryland Institute, College of Art (Baltimore, MD) and BFA from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts (Aichi, Japan).
She is the recipient of several grants including a Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant Award and a Pew Fellowship in the Arts, and has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Vox Populi, Philadelphia, PA; University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley; Shelburne Museum, Vermont; and Siegen Museum of Contemporary Art, Germany.
Additionally, Yamamoto is the Director of Studio Operations at The Fabric Workshop and Museum (Philadelphia, PA), and is an adjunct faculty in the graduate program in Textile Design at Jefferson (formerly Philadelphia University).
Eligibility
- Artists living in the U.S.A may submit up to three entries. All work must be either fiber in content or executed in a fiber technique.
- Innovative two- and three-dimensional fiber art is encouraged.
- Work must be completed after January 2015.
- Individual and collaborative works are invited. Artists submitting both collaborative and individual works must apply separately.
- Artwork must be an original design/concept and not created in a class or workshop. Student work is accepted if created outside the classroom and without an instructor’s guidance.
- Maximum size of submitted art 7feet height by 9 feet width
Contract Requirements
- By submitting this entry form, entrants agree to: be photographed, have their artwork photographed, and permit the images, details of images, and all or part of the artist's statement/bio to be used in the exhibit catalog and media support. If images were not photographed by the artist, the photographer’s name must be credited.
- Accepted artwork that significantly differs from the original submitted image will be excluded.
- Submission to Focus: Fiber 2019 requires that the artwork will be available for the exhibition and that the artist understands that all accepted work must remain for the duration of the exhibition.
- Work must be ready for installation, including appropriate hanging devices. Artists should provide written installation instructions.
- Appropriate packing materials, including a sturdy container, must be provided for return to the artist. Shipping costs and transit insurance to and from Kent State University Museum are the responsibility of the artist.

Jurying will be done from digital images only. Image quality is critical. The full image should be on a neutral background with all outside edges of the work visible. Color must represent the work accurately.

Liability
Kent State University Museum will insure the work for 60% of its fair market value while the work is under its care.
Sale of Work
Sales will be handled privately by the artist. Please include email and/or website information for the catalog so potential buyers can contact you.
Catalog
A full-color exhibition catalog will be produced. Upon acceptance, artists will be asked to provide a hi res (300DPI), 8x10 digital photo by email.
