One Gun Gone: Thoughts and Prayers are Not Enough is a juried international photography exhibition addressing the impact of gun violence and is the third show in an exhibition series designed to provide opportunities to support positive change in the community. This exhibition is produced by Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts in partnership with "One Gun Gone" [http://onegungone.com]. One Gun Gone is a multi-disciplinary gun violence prevention public art project run by Rhode Island educator and photographer Scott Lapham that engages students in underserved neighborhoods. Profits from this call will go to fund One Gun Gone’s gun buy-back program.

Entered photographs should address or relate to gun violence. We welcome the submission of work from existing series or any images that reflect how gun violence affects you in your community or the world at large. If you have a sense that “thoughts and prayers” are just not enough, put your creative and photographic skills to work while supporting this community service project. If you are interested in actions not words – this is the show for you.

Profits from this call will go to fund a gun buy back program and a special edition Candle Gun Sculpture has been produced for this exhibition, available in a kit [https://www.riphotocenter.org/support-one-gun-gone/] offered by One Gun Gone. Purchase of the kit is not required to enter the call, purchase directly funds the buy back of one handgun.

“The Candle Gun Sculpture was inspired by the sidewalk shrines that appear when someone has been killed on the street due to gun violence. Amid the stuffed animals, empty bottles and flowers are votive candles lit to mourn the passing of someone loved. We decided we wanted to create a sculpture that spoke to why someone was being mourned to begin with.”

Notification of Acceptance: On or before Monday, September 13, 2018, via email. All decisions are final.

Juror: Boris Bally. Boris is a nationally recognized artist, sculptor and activist whose current work addresses gun violence in America. Bally is the organizer behind the traveling exhibition and book "Imagine Peace
Now" [http://imaginepeacenow.org]. Through his practice, Boris repurposes disabled handguns into functional sculptures to redirect the conversation surrounding gun violence in America.

Bally is a Swiss-trained metalsmith and designer working in Providence, Rhode Island, where he maintains his small studio business, Bally Humanufactured, LLC [http://borisbally.com]. His work is widely exhibited and is included in the collections of London’s V&A Museum, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Museum of Art & Design New York, Carnegie Museum of Art Pittsburgh, Brooklyn Museum, Luce Foundation Center, Renwick Gallery, and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum.

Awards: $1000 in prizes
First Place: $500 or donate back to take 2 Semi automatic rifles off the street
Second Place: $250 or donate back to take 1 additional Rifle off the street
Third Place: $150 or donate back to take 1 additional handgun off the street
The Peoples Choice: $100 or donate back to help take additional guns off the street

Eligibility: Photographers of all levels who are at least 18 years or older are invited to enter.

Artwork: Open to all forms of photographic image-making in any process or technology, current or historical. Work must be your original creation. All work must be exhibition ready, no saw-tooth hangers or clips. Work that does not follow the guidelines, or is deemed not to be a faithful representation of the image submitted, will not be exhibited.

Entry Fee: Artists may submit up to 10 photographs. The entry fee is $45 for the first three images and $10 for each subsequent image. Current RIPhotoArts Members receive a 20% discount on all entry fees. The discount code can be retrieved from your profile page. All CAFE fees are non-refundable and must be paid by credit/debit card. Payment of those fees indicates the acknowledgement of the terms and conditions of the exhibition.

Size Limit: Maximum size 48” including the frame. Artists may have multiple pieces (diptych, triptych, etc.) to make up one work.

In-Person Delivery of Accepted Work: In-person deliveries will be accepted Saturday, October 13, from noon till 5:30pm or by appointment. The RIPhotoArts Gallery is located on the 2nd Floor at 118 North Main Street, in Providence, Rhode Island

Shipment of Accepted Work: Deliveries should be scheduled to arrive by Monday October 15. Shipped work must be accompanied by a prepaid, return label. Please make sure that you label your work on the back with your name or name on the shipping label if different.

Return of Work: For artists who delivered their art in-person pickup will be on Saturday, November 10. Shipped art will be returned in the packaging in which it was sent using the provided prepaid return shipping label. The artist is solely responsible for any charges that may arise from inadequate packaging, or redirected shipments.

Sales & Commissions: The Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts retains a 40% commission on works sold; 20% for current members.

Liability - Legal Agreement & Participant’s Waiver: Submission of work automatically waives any claim for damage or loss against RI Center for Photographic Arts, including the officers, members, and employees. RIPhotoArts will exercise all reasonable care in handling entries, but will not assume any liability for loss or damage while in RIPhotoArts’ possession or in transit. Work should be independently insured by the artist.

Usage Rights: The artist retains all copyright to the images submitted. By submitting images, you are giving RIPhotoArts the right to use the images for the purpose of marketing the exhibition and for reproduction online. Artists grant the use of their image(s) as stated without further contact or compensation from RIPhotoArts. Artist’s recognition is provided with any use. Submitting artists will be added to RIPhotoArts email subscriber list. They may opt out using a link on each email at any time. RIPhotoArts reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control. Payment of the submission fee indicates acknowledgement of all terms and conditions.
