HWD, or Height x Width x Depth, is a juried exhibition celebrating three-dimensional artwork by artists from Ohio and surrounding states.  Established in 2007, HWD is the region’s only gallery exhibition focused exclusively on sculpture.

NOTE: Entry is for up to 3 pieces ONLY. This call allows for additional images as detail views. To enter more than 3 pieces, please submit separate additional entries.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Entrants may submit up to three works of art per entry. Multiple entries are permitted.
  • Entrants may provide up to three images per artwork. 
  • All types of three-dimensional media are accepted including wood, fiber, stone, metal, glass and mixed media
  • Artwork must be able to fit through the 79 x 34 inch gallery entryway
  • Artwork must be created within the last four years
  • Artists must be residents of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania or West Virginia

2019 JUROR: 
Kevin Lyles graduated from Abilene Christian University in Texas with a BFA in art and then Bradley University in Illinois with an MFA in sculpture. After graduate school he worked for ten years in sculptural restoration repairing monuments and architectural ornamentation across the country. For the past twenty-eight years he has taught art at the University of Rio Grande where he is a full professor.  His work has been shown in over 160 international, national, and regional exhibitions and is in many permanent collections. His sculpture often mixes several media within each piece with the aim of developing a visual story for the viewer. Currently he lives in rural southeast Ohio where he has a timber-frame home and a studio in the woods.

ENTRY PROCEDURE
Jury is done from digital files. A non-refundable entry fee of $20 for up to three artworks must accompany each entry. Multiple entries are permitted.  Accepted artworks must be ready to hang/install upon arrival at Rosewood Gallery, and must be labeled with artist’s name and artwork title on the piece or its packaging.

OPENING RECEPTION
A reception will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2 – 4pm at Rosewood Gallery. All artists and the general public are invited to attend. Artist awards will be announced at 3pm.

AWARDS AND SALES 
Awards totaling $1,750 including the The Virginia Krause Hess Award for Excellence in Sculptural Art and The The Joan W. McCoy Memorial Peoples’ Choice Award will be distributed at the discretion of the juror and will be announced at the Sunday, September 8 reception at 3 pm. Rosewood Gallery encourages sales, for which the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department retains a 30% commission. The Peoples’ Choice award will be announced at the close of the exhibition.

LIABILITY
Every precaution is taken in handling exhibiting artwork. All work is insured during the installation process and while the work is on display. The Gallery Coordinator reserves the right to reject work if it differs from the work presented in the original application, violates any conditions set forth in this prospectus, or is unsafe to display for any reason. Artists who are shipping their work are responsible for shipping charges both ways. Return shipping must be pre-paid with a pre-paid label through UPS or FedEx. If no such arrangements are made, the artwork will not be returned. All wall pieces must include proper hanging materials or instructions. Participating artists must agree to be bound by the Rosewood Gallery Group Exhibition Agreement.

AGREEMENT
Submission of an entry to the HWD regional sculpture competition constitutes an agreement on the part of the entrant to all the conditions set forth in this prospectus. Rosewood Gallery reserves the right to reproduce images of accepted entries for publicity purposes.

REQUIRED
Artist must agree to Rosewood Gallery Group Exhibition Agreement to participate in a Rosewood Gallery group exhibition.
