The Fire Pit and Fire Sculpture Competition at Oregon WinterFest is a dynamic display of both functional ( fire pit ) and imaginative use of fire as a medium creating warmth. light and excitement which has become a favorite destination for attendees at Oregon WinterFest. The dramatic siting is central to the event, and is on the contoured amphitheater with the Deschutes River flowing by.The competition is divided into 2 categories, Fire Pit and Fire Sculpture. The criteria for each category are -
A drawing of an original piece you propose to build
3 images of current work (if you have been accepted to this event in the past you do not need to include images of current work)

Deadline for applying is January 15th 11:59 PST
Jurying for submissions is on a rolling basis as received, by a jury of three
Once the proposal has been accepted the artist is responsible for delivering the piece to the site in Bend Oregon on either Thursday, February 14th or before 12pm on Friday, February 15th. Load out for all accepted proposals is Sunday, February 17th after 6:30pm , or Monday, February 18th before 12pm.
Awards will be judged onsite and awards ceremony will take place Saturday evening. The awards are as follows -
1 $5000 purchase of a piece from either category
Cash awards in both categories as follows-
1st place $500
2nd place $250
3rd place $150
Sale of work: all proceeds from competition submitted works sold or commissioned onsite belong to the artist, we do not take any commission. A 25% commission will be taken for work sold within the Fire Gallery.
There is an VIP reception the evening of Friday, February 15th to which all artists plus 1 are invited which includes dinner and beverages.
Lay It Out Events the producer of OWF offers 10 fellowships for artists traveling from outside of Central Oregon to participate. This fellowship includes 3 nights lodging, a $100 gas stipend and a combination of Food Vouchers onsite and also cash to offset addional costs. Indicate in your application if you are also applying for a fellowship.

Fire Pit:
Designed and constructed to be used principally as a heat source and gathering point in a residential or commercial setting.
Typically, although not exclusively wood fueled
Fire Sculpture:
A sculptural piece incorporating fire, any fuel source.
Submissions must include :A drawing of an original piece you propose to build
3 images of current work (if you have been accepted to this event in the past you do not need to include images of current work)

· Proposed work can be fabricated in any non-flammable material
· Proposed work must be an original design, and constructed specifically for this event
· Submissions must include a non -flammable barrier which will protect installation turf from scorching
