A.I.R. Studio Paducah is an artist-in-residence studio and efficiency apartment located in the heart of the Lower Town Arts District in Paducah, Kentucky.  Over 100 artists from North America have passed through A.I.R. doors since 2004 to enjoy short or long stays (2 weeks to 3 months) of undistracted creative time.  A.I.R. can be the just the place to complete or begin a body of work.  The space is also an option for artists looking forward to a sabbatical or a working vacation retreat.

Setting: A.I.R. Studio Paducah offers residents the flexibility of working alone in small town peace and quiet; engaging with the arts community as part of their creative process; or both.  Located 6 blocks from the Ohio River in the heart of the Lower Town Arts District, A.I.R. is within walking distance of cultural venues and the County Library. Adjacent to LowerTown is the historic downtown area and riverfront, site of "Paducah Wall to Wall," a series of life-size floodwall murals. Yeiser Art Center, Maiden Alley Cinema and Carson Performing Arts Center are also downtown.

Opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors as an artist and nature lover abound.  The 145 acre Bob Noble Municipal Park and Greenway Trail are within city limits.  Regional attractions include Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley and Land Between the Lakes which offer more than 3,000 miles of shoreline for hiking and birding.

Criteria: We welcome self-motivated, focused artists (age 21 and above), working in a range of arts practices: visual arts;  photography; architecture; literary arts; improvisational movement chroreography and composing. Artists are encouraged to have a clear objective for the residency. Collaborative pairs and couples are welcome.

Program Benefits: The residency affords time and private space for independent work, fresh inspiration, contemplation, and experimentation. Residents may exhibit their work, conduct a workshop, or hold an open studio event. Artists who choose to exhibit their work can take advantage of A.I.R.'s storefront gallery space.  

 

Accommodations: A.I.R. combines a light-saturated studio with a storefront gallery and a furnished efficiency apartment.  Gracing the grounds are a side patio and sculpture garden bordered by flower beds, shrubs and trees.  The front entrance is wheelchair accessible.

Living Space: Consists of a cozy sleeping area, complete kitchen, small dining area and bathroom with shower.  Appliances include an electric range, microwave, frig, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Linens, cookware, coffee maker and tableware are provided.

 

Studio: High-ceilinged, large walls, skylights, worktables, shelving, utllity sink and rear dock make up the workspace.    For writers and composers, A.I.R. provides an expandable writing nook with a desk, ergonomic chair and futon.   Free high-speed wifi. 

House Rules: Smoking, candles and firearms are expressly prohibited.

Cost: The residency fee is $550 per two (2) week period and $875 per month, utilities included.  The application fee is $25.  A security deposit of $100 is required at the start of the residency. Food, supplies, travel, and local transportation costs are the responsibility of the resident.

Residency Dates: 2019 Residencies are available February-thru-December.  Length of stays range from 2 weeks to 3 months.  Indicate your proposed dates and lengths of stay, with a list of three dates at the bottom of your artist's statement.

Deadline and Notification: The deadline for 2019 residency applications is Midnight Mountain Time is February 15.  Applicants will be notified of the status of their application two (2) weeks after receipt of the application.

Application Guidelines: You must submit your application through the CaFE website https://www.califorentry.org/  Applications without work samples will not be considered.
