PAYMENT TO ARTIST(S):              $200 for each design per Traffic Box

DESCRIPTION:                               The City of Coral Springs will wrap four (4) traffic signal boxes located in the Downtown area of the City with digital versions of artworks. The goal of the program is to reduce blight along our corridors by transforming a utility box into a piece of art. This beautification effort will enhance the experience of all those visiting the corridors and will help to prevent vandalizing of boxes.

Themes

 There is no overall theme; however, the artwork should be colorful but not bright. Artwork should be bold and readable from cars and yet contain some intimacy for pedestrians.  Artworks related to environmental aspects of Coral Springs and to the history of Coral Springs are encouraged. No logos or words, political or religious references are to be used in the design. (See Mission Statement at the end of this Call.)

The selected artist(s) must provide the selected design with a minimum resolution of 360 DPI.

Selection

This Call is open to all Florida professional and amateur artists. Experience in vinyl wraps or public art is NOT necessary.  Artists skilled in any digital visual arts medium whether it be 2-D, painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, animation, etc. are encouraged to apply. Designs must be unique and of the artists own accord. Artists will be required to grant the City one time reproduction rights of the Artwork, the City may display, publish, reproduce, tag and duplicate said artwork for any purpose in any media which serves the City’s interest. Artists can submit up to four (4) images. All images must be submitted with a minimum resolution of 360 dpi. The images submitted are the works of art the artist is proposing for the vinyl wraps. The City may select multiple designs from each artist.

Artwork submitted must not be part of other tri-county Traffic Signal Box projects, or similar projects. If selected, artwork must not be used in future any tri-county Traffic Signal Box or similar projects while the artwork is installed in the Pompano Beach Traffic Signal Box project.

Once selected, the artist is required to place design(s) onto templates provided by the Vendor/City and to work with the Vendor/City for final approval of placement.

Artists are NOT eligible who are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee or program staff.

Submittal Requirements

Artists can submit up to four (4) images. Images submitted must be a maximum 5MB JPG. If selected, the artist must be able to provide the image with a minimum of 360 dpi. If the artist cannot provide a minimum 360 dpi, the artist will be disqualified.

Installation

The City will contract with a vinyl wrapping company to install the artwork.

Public Relations

The uniqueness of the artwork to be displayed will be of interest to the media and will be promoted.

Artists will be required to grant the City one time reproduction rights of the Artwork, the City may display, public, reproduce, tag and duplicate said artwork for any purpose in any media which serves the City’s interest. The final boxes will be photographed for use on a poster for display at city facilities and private business as well as a set of special webpages for the project. The webpages will provide information on the artists and artworks.

ARTIST SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is managed by the City of Coral Springs.

              Other Selection Issues:

a.       Florida “Sunshine Laws”: All meetings of the Public Art Committee are open to the public, are publicly advertised and are documented through written minutes.

b.       Conflicts of Interest: Artists with immediate family or business partners on the selection committee are not eligible to apply. A selection committee member may choose to withdraw from discussion and voting for any apparent conflict of interest.

c.       Public Art Committee Contacts: Artist applicants should not contact Public Art Committee members between the release of the Call to Artists and the completion of the selection process. Contact the City of Coral Springs staff for all questions and information.

THE CITY OF CORAL SPRINGS PUBLIC ART PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT

The City of Coral Springs recognizes that public art creates a unique sense of place and distinction, enjoyment and pride for all citizens and visitors to our community. The goal of the Public Art Program is to create a stimulating environment that reflects are enhances the City's heritage, diversity and character through public artworks integrated in the architecture, infrastructure and landscape.

The Public Art Committee is the advisory board to the Commission on matters pertaining to City's Public Art Program. The Arts Committee was originally formed in November 2003. The Public Art Committee maintains the program guidelines, creates the public art plans, researches all public artworks for the City of Coral Springs and reviews and approves public artworks on private properties.
