The ​Crooked Tree Arts Center, in Petoskey, Michigan, presents the 2019 Juried Photography Exhibition. This year’s juror is John Fergus-Jean, MFA. Fergus-Jean is an Emeritus Professor of Photography, former curator of photography, and a master photographic printer. The call is open to all residents of Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, and Crooked Tree Arts Center members, regardless of residency.  There will be three prizes awarded: 1st PLACE: $500, 2ND PLACE: $250, 3rd PLACE: $100.
 

Applicant Calendar:

• Submit entries online: September 17, 2018– December 7, 2018

• Notification will be sent between: December 14 and December 18, 2018

• Work must be delivered to Crooked Tree Arts Center (Petoskey) between January 4 - 8, 2019, during posted CTAC gallery hours. CTAC is closed on Sundays.

• The Juried Photography Exhibition Opening Reception is Saturday, January 19, 2019, 2 - 4 p.m.

• The Juried Photography Exhibition closes on: Saturday, March 30, 2019

• Work must be picked up between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Monday, April 1 - Saturday, April 6, 2019.

• Works delivered with return shipping arrangements will be sent by April 12, 2019.

​Eligibility

The 2019 Juried Photography Exhibition is open to all Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin residents, and all members of the Crooked Tree Arts Center, regardless of residency, 18 years and older.  

File Size and Format Guidelines:

• Still image format: JPEG

• File dimensions: 1200 pixels or greater on the longest side.  

• File size: under 5 MB
   

• Video format: WMV, AVI, MOV, MPG, MP4

• Resolution: minimum 640 x 480, maximum 1920 x 1080

• Aspect ratio: 4:3 or 16:9

• File size: under 100 MB

Juror: John Fergus-Jean
John Fergus-Jean, MFA,  is an Emeritus Professor of Photography, former curator of photography, and a master photographic printer. In these roles he has created: graduate and undergraduate art curricula, numerous museum and university art exhibitions, national art symposia, and many scholarly lectures.

His own artwork has been exhibited in university and museum venues, and his scholarly essays have been published in books such as: Teachers on Photography,  Perception and Imaging, and The Focal Encyclopedia of Photography. 
 

Fergus-Jean has also held many leadership positions in the arts, higher education, and the museum world including: Director of the Silver Image Gallery for The Ohio State University; Curator and Director of the Ross Study Center at the Columbus Museum of Art;  chief consultant for the development of the Ross Museum at Ohio Wesleyan University; Board President of Dialogue, a critical art journal; and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Photography, Cinema and Video at The Ohio State University.

Terms and Conditions

• The call is open to all residents of Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, and Crooked Tree Arts Center members, regardless of residency, 18 years and older.

• Submissions must rely on photographic processes. (All photographic techniques and processes are admissible.)

• Submissions must be original works created by the artist submitting the work.

• Artists may submit up to three entries.

• Works must not have been previously exhibited at Crooked Tree Arts Center.

• Accepted works must be prepared for installation.

• Accepted works must be labeled on the back with the artist’s name and the title(s) of the photograph(s).

• The Crooked Tree Arts Center galleries are sales galleries and works can be for sale. Price is set by the artist. The Crooked Tree Arts Center will retain a 40% commission on all sales.

• A non-refundable fee of $35.00 per artist is required for entry (CTAC members $20.00). • Accepted work may NOT be removed until after the close of the show.

• Work not picked up by specified pick-up dates becomes property of the Crooked Tree Arts Center unless prior arrangement has been made with Crooked Tree Arts Center staff. The artist forfeits any claim to the work and the Crooked Tree Arts Center cannot be held responsible for any method of disposal arising from forfeiture.

• By submitting work to this exhibition opportunity, the artist agrees to all terms and conditions described in the exhibition prospectus.
   

Submission Procedure:

• Submit up to three photographic images  and/or videos via CaFÉ.

• Jury will be done online.

• All photographic processes are welcome, but entries must be submitted online via CaFÉ, and file formats must meet CaFÉ specifications.

• Complete the required entry forms, including medium/process, title, size, and retail price of the work.

• Works must be clearly labeled with the artist's name, the title, and photographic medium. ​

• Please make sure that your email address in the application form is accurate.
