Barrett Art Center seeks solo/group show proposals for shows in the second-floor Crenson Gallery.  Drawing, painting, pastel, printmaking, photography, sculpture, fiber, mixed-media, new media, and installation works are eligible. This presents a unique opportunity for solo or collaborative shows, as well as installation works for the Crenson Gallery and the adjacent exterior second floor side-porch.  We invite proposals of both contemporary and traditional pieces that create a visually-compelling complement, or counterpoint, to Barrett Art Center’s 1840s Greek Revival townhouse interior.

About the Juror: Michael Gitlitz
Gitlitz earned his Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College in 1991 including studies at the Scuola Lorenzo de Medici and Scuola Dante Alighieri in Florence, Italy, the Middlebury College Language Schools in Middlebury, VT, and University College, London. From 1993 to 2001, he handled American and European works of art from the 17th to the 21st centuries for Hirschl & Adler Galleries’ international clientele of private collectors, dealers and public institutions. While there, he curated and wrote catalogues for numerous exhibitions, while unearthing both old and new masterworks as well as artists’ estates. In 2001 he was named director of Hirschl & Adler Modern and from 2001 to 2015 he was a director at Marlborough Gallery, New York where he specialized in contemporary and modern art working with museums and private collectors as well as continuing to curate and lecture. From 2016 to 2017 he served as a Senior Specialist in Post-War & Contemporary and in Modern art at Paddle8 auction house, exploring the burgeoning areas of emerging artists and on-line collecting. He has also worked privately consulting with collectors in all areas of fine art.
Three proposals will be chosen to exhibit in the Crenson Gallery for shows in 2019. Criteria for review will include technical and artistic execution, a cohesive body of work or coherent theme, and overall artistic merit.  Gallery size and structural capacity will also play a role in submission selection.

Marketing strategies employed for exhibition include: Press releases submitted to print and electronic media outlets in the Hudson Valley with consistent local newspaper coverage. Online: weekly newsletter; page on website; Facebook & Instagram. The DCAA e-newsletter has over 2,500 subscribers.  The website attracts over 2,000 unique visitors each month.  Artists are invited to present an artist talk during the exhibition.  BAC commossion on sales for Members: 20%; Nonmembers: 30%

Notification of decisions will be sent to applicants on or about December 22, 2018, via email coming from CaFE
