LOCATION/CONTEXT: The Albuquerque Fire 9 Art Selection Committee seeks an artist and/or artist team to join the project’s design team, which consist of the Albuquerque Fire Rescue, architects from Vigil and Associates, and project coordination with the City’s Department of Municipal Development. 

Working with the Fire Station 9 design team, the selected artist/artists team will be responsible for developing, incorporating and implementing Public Artwork at the AFR Fire Station 9.  Fire  Station 9 will be located near the corner of Menaul Blvd and Eubank Blvd. NE, and is currently in contract document design phase. 

MEDIA/STYLE/SIZE: The Albuquerque Fire Station 9 Art Selection Committee will consider artist who work in a variety of media and styles that maybe incorporated into the overall design for the station.  Resulting artwork must be suitable for long-term outdoor display, including durability and minimal routine maintenance. The artist will be selected on aesthetic vision, excellence of past projects and suitability for the site. 

BUDGET: A maximum of $100,000.00 is available from the Albuquerque Public Art program for the selected artist or artists’ team (All travel and lodging, equipment rental, supplies and fabrication for the final design and commission will be responsibility of the artist/artists team).  $20,000 of the maximum fee will be used to place the selected artist/artists team under a design contract to work with the City and the Fire Station 9 Design Team in developing the new Fire Station 9 and public art work.  The remaining $80,000 is available to the selected artist to design, fabricate, transport and install the work(s).  (1% for Art Funds: Public Safety Fire)   

PROCESS: This is a Regional open competition, Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for all artists and/or artist teams residing in New Mexico.  The Art Selection Committee will select up to Five (5) finalists to conduct interviews based on past work, experience in executing public art works, and experience working within a design team or at the discretion of the Art Selection Committee. The committee reserves the right to select a single artist and/or artist’s team from the original submissions from the RFQ.  

Submission Deadline Extented to:  Wednesday, December 12, 2018 – by 4:00 pm MT

 Eligibility: Open to individual artists/ artist’s team who are current residents in the State of New Mexico. 

You must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for this opportunity. 

APPLICATION PROCESS:  Artist will need to apply to this call using CaFE (Call for Entry) www.callforentry.org 

(Late and/or incomplete submissions will not be considered.) 

Submission Materials – Artists must submit the following items for the project: 

1.       A letter of intent, not to exceed 1000 words: a summary of your professional experience that outlines your suitability for this project, especially experience working with construction and design professionals. Include a description of your past work and the themes that generated them. 

2.       Up to 8 (eight) digital images of past work, examples of successful large scale projects that demonstrate your skills and ability to successfully work with stakeholders to create an artwork. Including visual representations and examples of your artwork, showcasing your artistic style and mediums you’ve worked in. 

3.       An annotated image key, clearly labeled with your name and a numerical listing for each image, the title of the work, the media, the dimensions and year of completion. 

4.       A current resume not to exceed 3 (three) pages should include statements regarding your artwork/art education or CV. If you are submitting as part of a team, please include separate resumes and statements for each individual. 

DO NOT SUBMIT A PROPOSED DESIGN, as they will not be shown to the committee. This is a Request for Qualifications based on artistic style and approach. Finalists will be selected based upon the discretion of the Art Selection Committee.
