Boulder Housing Partners invites Colorado front range artists and artist teams to submit their work samples and qualifications to be considered for the 2020 BHP artist roster. The roster may be used for identifying appropriate artists/teams for public art opportunities of different types within Boulder Housing Partners existing communities and future developments.
Eligibility:
Open to experienced artists living in the Front Range Corridor region of CO regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation or mental or physical handicap. Artists working in any media are eligible to apply. Artists are not required to have previous experience in public art.
Background:
Boulder Housing Partners has been the housing authority for the City of Boulder Colorado for over 50 years. BHP builds, owns, and manages quality affordable housing for low and moderate-income Boulder residents, and helps those residents pursue successful, productive, and dignified lives. BHP is one of a select group of public housing authorities in the United States participating in the prestigious Moving to Work program, which encourages innovation by providing flexibility in the use of federal funds. Its communities have won national and international awards for sustainability and affordable housing development.
Scope:
The Artist Roster will be an ongoing resource for a number of public art and engagement opportunities within BHP communities in Boulder, Colorado. These projects will vary in scope and budget and will include the following categories:
Public Art (permanent & temporary) - for artists/ teams that enrich and enliven the urban environment with an art practice that responds directly to a specific environment/communities and possess the appropriate durability for the specified lifespan of the project.
Murals - for artist/teams with a range of artistic styles and techniques that design and paint large-scale works for architectural features, walls, and/or art on construction fencing.
Media Arts - for artists/teams that focus on work that is either produced, modified, and transmitted by means of digital technologies, such as video/photography, monitor/LED screens, projections, virtual reality, augmented reality, sound installations, and locative media.
Social/Civic Practice - for artists/teams that focus on engagement through personal interaction and social discourse, which facilitates collaboration between artists and communities. This category will serve as a resource for artist-driven community engagement projects.

Evaluation Criteria:
Applications will be reviewed with the following criteria.

Inherent artistic quality.

Diversity- how the artwork reflects diversity in perspective, approach, style, scale, narrative media, gender and cultural identity.
The artist roster will be a resource for selection, invitation and for requesting proposals by Boulder Housing Partners project administrators or designated selection committee for specific projects and will be for a period of two years. Artists will be contacted by BHP or it's agents to request artist availability, and proposals for each opportunity as they become available.
Timeline:
Applications Deadline February 29, 2020.
Notification of acceptance May 1, 2020.
Public art projects will be initiated on a rolling basis starting in the spring of 2020 and ongoing through 2022.
