DETAILS:

Welcome to the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art’s 47th Annual International Art Exhibition, with a total of $3,300 in PRIZES this year. This is a Brownsville tradition and an inspiring exhibit that unites talented and creative artists from all over the world. We are honored to host such an important event at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art.

ELIGIBILITY:

All artists 18 & older are welcome to submit their works. All submissions must be original and from the artist submitting, no reproductions of other artist’s work or published photographs.

DEADLINE AND FEES:

Midnight (Central Time) for digital submission on February 20, 2019. The fee is forty US dollars ($45) up to 3 art works. The entry fees are non-refundable.

 SUBMISSION PROCESS:

Please send your submission via www.callforentry.org This is a free Internet site to apply to exhibitions and competitions. Submit up to three digital images. Only JPEGs up to 5MB with a minimum of 1920 pixels on the longest side will be accepted.

 CATEGORIES, CONDITIONS AND RULES:

1. Painting (oil and acrylic); 2. Drawing (including pen, pencil, colored pencil, pastel, and charcoal); 3. Water Media (watercolor, gouache, India ink); 4. Mixed Media (including collage); 5. Printmaking (including etching, woodcuts, monograph, lithograph, and aquatint); 6. Three-dimensional Sculpture (including relief, in the round, jewelry, and ceramic); 7. Photography; 8. Digital Media (including enhanced photography).
 

All wall art must be framed, equipped with d-rings or wire, and ready for hanging; wire in good condition. Mats neatly cut and clean; canvas must be framed, or gallery wrapped. NO SAW TOOTH HANGERS; Three-dimensional works must be stable and ready for presentation. Artist may not substitute another work for the accepted work. The BMFA reserves the right to place entries in proper categories when they have been designated in incorrect categories. The Brownsville Museum of Fine Art has the right to refuse the exhibition of any artwork that doesn’t follow the proper guidelines and presentation.

 
All art must be for sale and the BMFA will require 30% commission for any sale that was a direct result of the exhibition. By submitting work to be considered, artists grant permission to the BMFA to reproduce accepted artwork for promotional uses in both printed and electronic forms.

 

DELIVERY:

All work must be shipped in reusable containers with a prepaid return-shipping label via UPS, FEDEX or USPS. Please retain a copy of your return-shipping label. Artist must be responsible for transporting and installing any sculpture exceeding 4’ x 5’ or over 150 lbs. All accepted works must be available for the entire duration of the exhibition. Artists are responsible for their own shipping costs. Artists hand-delivering works must do so between March 11 - 15 during museum hours.

 

SELECTIONS & AWARDS:

 BEST OF SHOW: $1000

CLARA ELY AWARD: $250 limited to oil and acrylic

OCTAVIA ARNESON AWARD: $250 limited to water media (watercolor, India ink, gouache)

MAYOR’S AWARD: Commemorative Plate

FIRST PLACE: in each of eight categories $150

SECOND PLACE: in each of eight categories, $50

THIRD PLACE: in each of eight categories, $25

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Ribbons

 

TIMELINE:

February 20, 2019: Entry Submission Deadline

February 21 - 24, 2019: Selection Process

February 25 – 26, 2019: Notification of Acceptance

March 4: Begin Reception Tickets Sales for Awards Ceremony. $10 for participating artists and $15 for guests.

March 11 - 15, 2019: Work that will be hand-delivered and shipped should be delivered between these dates during museum hours

March 27, 2019: Opening reception and awards ceremony with announcement of winners, dinner included

March 28, 2019: 47th International Art Show Complimentary Breakfast for participating artists at 10 am.

April 27, 2019: Final Day of Exhibition

April 29 – May 1, 2019: Art pick-up during museum hours (for hand delivered work)

May 2 - 4, 2019: Work shipped back to artists

 DISCLAIMER:

I approve of all mentioned guidelines and understand that the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art (BMFA) will handle all art objects submitted for the 47th International Art Show in a professional manner. The museum is not responsible for any damage to art objects incurred during normal and proper handling of the work during the jurying process, installation, exhibition, or return to the artist.  

 I understand that all work must be ready to install. The Brownsville Museum of Fine Art will not be held responsible for any work that is broken or stolen after the pickup date. All hand delivered work not picked up on time will be charged $50 handling fee and $1 for each extra day the art work remains in the BMFA. WORKS NOT PICKED UP WITHIN 30 DAYS OF THE CLOSING BECOME MUSEUM PROPERTY.
