CALL FOR ARTISTS OPEN NOW THROUGH February 11th, 2019 at 11:59pm.

MINT is proud to announce an all-media call to artists for M6: MINT's 6th Annual Juried Exhibition for emerging artists. MINT's Annual Juried Exhibition seeks to showcase the work of some of the most dynamic and innovative emerging cultural producers currently working in the United States. In our sixth iteration, the exhibition will feature multiple works from the practice of every selected national, regional, and local contemporary artist. Each artist selected for inclusion in the exhibition will also be awarded an artist fee/cash honorarium from MINT.

Juried by Tiffany LaTrice of TILA Studios in Atlanta, GA, the exhibition seeks work responding to subjects surrounding a quote by Contemporary American Poet, Aja Monet, encouraging work that explores the relationship between love and hatred and the possibility of their coexistence and how hatred can fuel togetherness or divisiveness.

“Hatred doesn’t just hurt the people being hated, it hurts the people housing hatred.”

- Aja Monet.

HISTORY:
Our vision is to make Atlanta a destination for the arts. A cultural hub where artists thrive, patrons experience transformative work, and communities are engaged. MINT believes that art brings the world to life. In this spirit, we serve artists and arts enthusiasts through our residency program, exhibitions, community partnerships, and other outreach. We invite risk taking, encourage curiosity, and advance brilliant and challenging work.

In 2006, MINT was founded by undergraduate students at Atlanta universities. The organization was established to create a space for emerging artists and patrons to find their voices. Over the past 12 years, we have presented over 1,000 contemporary and experimental artists through our programs and exhibitions. We provide creatives opportunities to present work in both traditional and alternative media, such as installation, sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, film, literature, and performance. Our rigorously curated exhibitions and projects, community art programs, and open calls for artists continue to engage and challenge the contemporary Atlanta art scene.

W.A.G.E. (Working Artists and the Greater Economy) is a national organization focused on regulating the payment of artist fees by nonprofit art institutions and establishing a sustainable model for best practices between artists and the institutions that contract their labor. Their current roster of organizations includes The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, MOMA, The Guggenheim, and now, MINT.

MINT is the first W.A.G.E.-certified organization in Georgia, a state with has the 49th lowest per capita arts funding in the U.S. (National Assembly of Arts Agencies), which means the burden of paying artists falls on organizations like ours. W.A.G.E. certification has propelled us to be an even more integral part of Georgia’s arts ecosystem.

In 2018, Tiffany LaTrice received the Artist Entrepreneur of the Year Award by C4 Atlanta and was a finalist for the Center for Civic Innovation #GoodTrouble Award. TILA Studios is the recipient of the 2018 Best of Atlanta Award for Atlanta Magazine and the Atlanta Tribune.

LaTrice has worked with the City of Atlanta’s Office of Planning to build a community engagement tool for the community of Cascade.
