Juror's Artist Statement—
Inspired by the colors, shapes and lines in nature, I enjoy building and creating layers in my paintings. Each mark, scrape, and tear reveals the history and beauty underneath the surface. The process of adding paint and excavating through the layers to discover beauty underneath is fascinating to me. We live in a fast paced world and many times only see what is on the surface while neglecting to look deeper for the hidden treasures.
It is my hope that the art I create brings the viewer into a closer looking experience and succeeds in expressing the beauty, intrigue and depth in the world around us.
In some of my works I have used acrylics, mixed media and handmade papers in the layering process while many of my paintings are created using oil paint and cold wax to build layers within the composition.
