ELIGIBILITY
Any artist residing in the United States may enter.  All work must be original, completed within the last three years, and not previously exhibited at the Yellowstone Art Museum.

 

MEDIA AND LIMITATIONS
The competition is open for the following categories: Painting, Drawing, Graphic Arts, Collage, Sculpture, Photography, and Mixed Media.  Entries must not exceed 72” inches in any direction and/or 150 pounds. No entry that requires the artist to be present for moving or assembly will be accepted. Work that is hung on the wall must be hung using D-rings or a wire, and hardware must be installed prior to delivery. Any other method of hanging (Push Pins, Binder Clips, etc.) is up to the discretion of the museum and may not be hung in the final show.  Once pieces have been submitted they can’t be altered or sold until you have received final notification of your status in the show. If work arrives that has been significantly altered, or is different from accepted images, it will be immediately disqualified from the show. 

ENTRY FEE
$45.00 fee entitles entrant to submit up to TWO entries. You may select the option to pay by check through CaFE, simply fill out your entry online and choose the pay by check option.  Your check will need to be received at the YAM no later than May 10, 2019,  to be eligible for the jurying process.  Any checks received after May 11, 2019,  will be returned and your entry will be removed.

INSURANCE
All works accepted for exhibition will be insured, while on the premises, at a value agreeable to the artist and the YAM.  Maximum insurance by the YAM for any entry will be $8,000.  The Museum will not be responsible for insuring work in transit or works unclaimed after December 31, 2019.

RECEIVING
Works selected for exhibition will be received hand-delivered or shipped PREPAID from June 11, 2019 – July 11, 2019 during YAM hours: Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Hand-delivered packing materials will not be retained by the YAM. Please call ahead to assure that a staff member is available to accept your work.

The YAM reserves the right for the Juror to reject, upon review, work with unacceptable artsmanship and/or quality not discernible in the digital images, or in violation of the requirements outlined in the “Limitations” section.

RETURN OF ARTWORK
Exhibited work may be claimed starting October 11, 2019, during the previously stated YAM hours. Artists must schedule a pickup appointment time with a member of the curatorial department at least 24 hours in advance. The YAM will not be responsible for work not claimed by December 31, 2019.

Shipped work will be returned in the method it was received, unless specified otherwise by the artist.  All shipping costs and liability for damage are the responsibility of the artist.

SALES
The YAM takes a 20% commission for the sale of works from this exhibition.  Please keep this in mind when setting your sale price.  In the event of a sale, a check for the purchase price minus 20% will be sent to the artist no later than 15 days after the close of the exhibition.

EXHIBITION
The North by Northwest (NXNW) Exhibition will be open to the public from July 18, 2019 – October 10, 2019.  You are cordially invited to attend the Opening Reception on July 18, 2019.  Awards will be presented at this time.  Award winners, or their representatives, are requested to be present for the awards presentation.

PURCHASE and MERIT AWARDS
Purchase and merit awards, underwritten by individuals, corporations, foundations and philanthropic organizations, will be presented at the July 18th Opening Reception. Purchase award-winning works have the potential to become part of the YAM’s Community Collection.

Please note: Juror will select awards on July 17, 2019, after reviewing actual entries.  All awards will be given at the discretion of the juror.  Entries receiving purchase awards will become part of the YAM’s Community Collection.  If the sale price stated is in excess of the assigned purchase award, the artist will be contacted immediately after the jurying and given the opportunity to accept or reject the award. All entries are eligible for merit awards.

JURYING PROCESS
The Juror will be a museum professional working as either a curator or director. The juror will be judging the entries blindly, without knowledge of the artist’s identity.
