Theme: Women’s Work

The Yellowstone Art Museum celebrates the 2020 centennial of women’s suffrage with a series of exhibitions foregrounding diverse perspectives applied to creative work. This year’s juried North x Northwest exhibition will be organized under the broad theme of “Women’s Work.” The exhibition is open to artists of all genders and backgrounds, working in any fine art or craft medium. We anticipate that the exhibition will include work focused on women’s perspectives, media traditionally defined as feminine, art that honors the social and political contributions of women, and art that highlights women’s often invisible labor.

The YAM’s second annual juried North x Northwest exhibition features work in a wide variety of mediums by contemporary artists. The exhibition introduces new artists to the region alongside familiar emerging and established artists. In addition to Juror’s Award and People’s choice, the exhibition will make possible up to $5,000 in purchase awards for the YAM’s collection.

JUROR AND JURYING PROCESS

Jurying will be judged blind using artist submitted images. Final award selection will occur upon the juror reviewing the works in person.

The Juror will be Jill Ahlberg Yohe, Associate Curator of Native American Art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. In 2008, Ahlberg Yohe received her PhD from the University of New Mexico; her dissertation was a focus on the social life of weaving in contemporary Navajo life. Along with Teri Greeves, Jill co-curated Hearts of Our People: Native Women Artists. At Mia Jill seeks new initiatives and to expand understanding and new curatorial practices of historical and contemporary Native art.
