2019 PROSPECTUS - RICHARDSON CIVIC ART SOCIETY (RCAS)

53rd Annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition & Sale

May 1, 2019 through May 28, 2019

Funded in part by the City of Richardson through the Richardson Cultural Arts Commission

ELIGIBILITY

This exhibit is open to all amateur and professional Texas Artists, age 18 and over. Artwork must be original, executed after April 1, 2017 without instructor supervision, must not be copies of art work or photographs by persons other than the artist and must not have been previously accepted in any RCAS Regional Shows. Multiple painting series must be in separate frames only and will be judged individually. Image submission should show the image only,  not the frame. Categories will be Oil/Acrylic on Canvas or Hard Surface, Water Media on Paper, Collage/Mixed Media, and Pastels/Graphics. No sculpture, computer art, photographs, shadow boxes or assemblage. Graphics are limited to charcoals, pen & ink, colored & graphite pencils, crayons, woodcuts, etchings, and hand pulled prints. Artwork which includes nudes, conspicuously religious or blatant political statements will not be accepted. Works which differ substantially from image submitted will be disqualified. RCAS reserves the right to refuse any entry.

Cash prizes in each category for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention will be $300, $250, $200, and $150 respectively. Merchandise awards will be distributed equitably among the categories at the judge’s discretion. There will be approximately $7,000.00 in cash and merchandise awards.

ENTRY FEES

$35 entry fee for one piece, $10 for each additional piece (i.e., two (2) pieces for $45.00, or three (3) pieces for $55.00). Limit three (3) pieces total. All fees are non-refundable.

RCAS MEMBERS receive a 25% discount. Limit three (3) pieces total. All fees are non-refundable.

NON-MEMBERS may join for 2019 by going to the Richardson Civic Art Society website at http://richardson-arts.org/forms/membershipForm.html. Once you have paid the membership fee, you will receive a receipt with a coupon code for a 25% discount on the exhibit entry fees.

Tues., May 28, 2019 – 4:00 to 7:00 pm Pick up of Hand-delivered Entries. No 
storage facilities are available. Entries must be picked up on the specified date.

JUROR
Gene Dillard, Portrait Artist
 
Gene Dillard comes to portraiture from a background of extensive academic training and experience in the graphics field. Growing up in Texas in a home filled with art by relatives, Gene began painting and drawing at an early age. He studied art first at Baylor University and then completed his first degree in fine art at the University of Texas at Austin. He then studied at The California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles and completed his second degree at The Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles.

He ascended through a career in advertising design as an Art Director and Creative Director for major national and regional advertising agencies in Texas. He has worked on such notable accounts as Exxon, Borden Milk, Chase Bank, Crown Plaza Hotels, Frito Lay, Dr Pepper, Kraft Foods and many others. His ad designs have been published throughout the U.S. in national media. During his career in advertising, he has maintained a strong parallel activity of painting and teaching art. He has taught classes at Southern Methodist University, The Dallas Art Institute and in the School of Visual Arts at The University of North Texas.

Exhibits have included a one-man show at The Blackland Gallery, exhibits at the Merritt Art Studio Gallery and Griffith Fine Art Gallery in Salado, Gaylord Texan Gallery, Holter Gallery, Posey Lane Gallery and Rutherford's Gallery in Dallas.

Numerous commission subjects include elected officials, ministers, business executives, a military officer, brides, children, women and men.

REQUIREMENTS & RESTRICTIONS

SIZE LIMITATIONS: Minimum image size is 100 square inches (not including mat and frame) and maximum frame height or width is 42 inches and must be less than 2 inches deep. Only two-dimensional art will be accepted. Selected art MUST be dry and framed in a professional manner using D-rings and wire (no sawtooth hangers). Simple frames are encouraged. For matted work the outer mat must be white or buff color. Watercolor and other fragile media must be under Plexiglas. Pastel and Charcoal artwork may be under glass. Gallery-wrapped canvas is acceptable, edges must be painted. Collage build-ups must not exceed 1/4”. Items not for sale must be marked NFS. Artwork which includes nudes, conspicuously religious or blatantly political statements will not be accepted. If selected, entrants are obligated to exhibit their work during the entire show, or they will be disqualified from entry for the following year. Accepted entries shall imply a release of winning images to be displayed on the RCAS website, RCAS Facebook page or other RCAS publications. Awards are given at the discretion of the juror. If you win the Best of Show Award, you will receive the purchase award amount and your artwork will become the permanent property of the City of Richardson to be displayed in the Richardson Public Library. To be eligible for Best of Show, you must agree to accept the Purchase Award.  Artists may qualify for up to three awards (one per category). The juror’s final decision for display of art will be made during judging. The juror’s decision is final.

ENTRY PROCESS

You must enter your images and pay through the Call for Entry (Café) website at callforentry.org.

DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED ART

If accepted, instructions for exhibits requiring shipping for entry to RCAS Regional Show, will be emailed to artists along with the notification letter of accepted entries.  Artists are responsible for all shipping costs including a $55 fee which will be charged by Navis Pack & Ship for handling, insuring, and transport to and from the exhibit while in their possession. Shipped exhibits must be received between April 15 and April 26, 2019. Shipped entries must be sent prepaid in a reusable crate. You are encouraged to insure your art when shipping for your own protection. Neither RCAS nor the shipper/receiver will be responsible for damages incurred prior to reaching the shipper/receiver.

Hand delivered art will be received, Monday, April 29, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Eisemann Center and must be picked up on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm. No facilities are available for storage of art not picked up on time.
 
LIABILITY

Artists should carry their own insurance. Reasonable care will be taken with original art. RCAS, its officers or volunteers and/or the Eisemann Center will not be responsible for the loss, theft, breakage or damage of any artworks submitted. A 15% commission to the Eisemann Center is required and an additional 20% commission to RCAS is requested per artist on all sales. Please price your work accordingly. Artists are responsible for paying state sales tax.

AGREEMENT

Entering this exhibition shall be understood to constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to all rules and conditions as set forth in this prospectus.
