The San Marino League will hold its 6th Juried Fine Art Exhibition and Sale on March 27, 28 & 29, 2020 on the magnificent grounds of the Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California.
Art Matters attracts some of our country's best artists and is open to painters of any medium. Our event will take place during The Huntington's year-long Centennial Celebration.
Qualifying Art:
- Paintings only will be accepted.
- Oils, Watercolor, Acrylic, Mixed Media, Pastels, Gouache.
- Subject Matter & Style: No Restrictions
- Submissions must be entered through CaFE.
- Each artist may submit up to 3 works of art.
- All art will be juried and must be for sale.
- All art must be submitted with a sale price, which cannot be changed.
- Deadline for Entry is January 10, 2020.
Image Submission:
- Each artist may submit up to three digital images .
- The jury will judge each piece individually.
- The artist will remain anonymous.
Size Restriction:
- All accepted art work must be framed and ready for display.
- Maximum size: 864 square inches (excluding frame).
- Minimum size: 64 square inches (excluding frame).
- Art must have screw eyes or D-rings and strong wire.
- If a work of art is submitted without a frame, the sides of the canvas must be painted and ready to hang safely and easily.
Juried Artist Entry Fee:
- $45 for up to 3 entries.
- Enter all your art at the same time.
- Entry fee is non-refundable
Jurors: We proudly announce our three outstanding jurors:
- Seth Baker: Head Gardener, Brody California Garden, Education and Visitors Center at The Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens, San Marino, California.
An Environmental Design alumnus of ArtCenter College of Design, Seth Baker has been designing gardens at the Huntington for over a decade. He is renowned for his fine eye for texture, color and design.

Our Featured Artists were chosen from a list of outstanding painters who represent a wide variety of styles and mediums. We are pleased to announce our Featured Artists for 2020:

Paint Out:
- All accepted artists will have the opportunity to paint at The Huntington on February 24, 25 & 26, 2020.
- These paintings may be included in the Exhibition and Sale at the artist's discretion, but will not be part of the juried show.
Opening Night Reception & 3-Day Sale:
- Participating artists, and their guest, will be invited to attend the Opening Night Reception and Sale on Friday, March 27.
- Awards will be announced at that time.
- The exhibition and sale will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, March 28-29.
Cash Awards:
- $1000 for Best in Show
- $500 for 2nd Place
- $250 for 3rd Place
- $300 for Best depiction of an iconic landscape or structure in Pasadena or surrounding Los Angeles area.*
- $100 for Best New Artist entering for the first time
*Pasadena Arroyo Bridge, Pasadena City Hall, San Gabriel Mountains, Santa
Anita Race Track, Downtown Los Angeles, The Huntington Library or the Santa
Monica Pier -- to name but a few examples.
- These awards will be determined by our judges from the actual works of art -- not from digital images.
- Artists do not need to be present to win.
Commission:
- 50% to the Artist and 50% to the San Marino League.
- The San Marino League's proceeds will be divided equally between our two philanthropies: Student Fine Arts Scholarships at ArtCenter College of Design and the Japanese Garden Endowment at The Huntington.
Delivery of Art for Local Artists:

Art must be delivered on March 25, to the Brody Botanical Center at The Huntington. Specific delivery instructions will be provided upon acceptance.
Shipping for Non-Local Artists:
- Artists who cannot deliver their artwork will be responsible for the cost of crating, handling, insurance, shipping and delivery of artwork to and from Box & Ship in Pasadena, CA. Box & Ship will deliver the artwork to and from The Huntington.
- Specific delivery and shipping instructions will be provided upon acceptance.
Calendar:
- January 10: Deadline for submission of image and entry fees
- February 7: Notification of jurors' decision
- February 24,25 & 26: Paint Out at The Huntington
- March 25: Delivery of artwork to the Brody Botanical Center at The Huntington
- March 27: Opening Night Reception and Sale for Invited Guests and Artists
- March 28-29: Sale open to the public
- March 29: Artists pickup unsold art at close of show
