EXPOSURE: The 23rd Annual PRC Juried Exhibition (July 11 − August 11, 2019)
Juror: Mark Alice Durant
Deadline for Submission: April 12, 2019
The Photographic Resource Center invites submissions for EXPOSURE: The 23rd Annual PRC Juried Exhibition, juried this year by Mark Alice Durant.
The PRC seeks entries from a broad range of exhibition-ready bodies of work, including both traditional and non-traditional approaches to photography, that has been created in the last five (5) years. Unusual among juried competitions, EXPOSURE exhibits up to five pieces from each selected artist, offering them a deeper-level showcase for their series to engage the audience. Mark Alice Durant, juror: "In judging the upcoming EXPOSURE submissions, I have no idea what to expect, so I'll take the work on its own terms and look at it according to what I believe it's trying to say. What I look for is an active imagination, curiosity, and engagement with the world: 'What is this artist doing with their chosen subject? What is their relationship to their subject and how are they communicating?'"
Mark Alice Durant is an artist, writer, and publisher of Saint Lucy Books and Saint-Lucy.com. He will select 10 to 15 artists and two to five pieces each for exhibition. EXPOSURE 2019 will be shown at Lesley Art + Design's Van Dernoot Gallery in Lesley’s well-trafficked University Hall.
Since its inception in 1996, the PRC annual juried exhibition has shown more than 300 photographers, including an array of established artists and those cited as "ones to watch." Past exhibiting photographers include Claire Beckett, Dave Jordano, Priya Kambli, Benjamin Lowy, Neeta Madahar, Rania Matar, Irina Rozovsky, Tara Sellios, Steve Smith, and Martin Stupick.
