CALL FOR ENTRY
BSA Space extends an open invitation to artists to exhibit photography that represents new, creative perspectives on the built or designed environment.  

 

ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS
Submissions will be juried on creative value, mastery of craft, and relevance to the exhibition theme, New Visions of Designed Environments. Each artwork will be considered individually.

 

ABOUT BSA SPACE
BSA Space, Boston’s leading cultural institution for architecture and design, is home to the Boston Society of Architects/AIA (BSA) and the BSA Foundation. The BSA is one of the oldest chapters of the American Institute of Architects. The BSA Foundation, a charitable organization, supports activities that illuminate the ways that design improves the quality of our lives. All exhibitions at BSA Space are supported by the BSA Foundation. BSA Space is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am–6:00 pm, and on weekends and holidays from 10:00 am–5:00 pm. JURORS 

Meghan Melvin
Meghan Melvin is the Jean S. and Frederic A. Sharf Curator of Design in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. A graduate of University College London, Meghan also holds an M.Phil in Decorative Arts from the University of Glasgow. She sits on the Exhibition Committee of BSA Space, and is Vice-President of the board of Governors at the Nichols House Museum in Beacon Hill.

Christine O’Donnell
Christine O’Donnell is the Owner and Gallery Manager of Beacon Gallery. She opened Beacon Gallery in Boston, Massachusetts after over a decade spent living and working in the field of marketing, advertising and education in Paris, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Christine has a master's degree from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts and a bachelor's degree from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Christine is also a member of the Newton’s Cultural Council.

Peter Vanderwarker
Peter Vanderwarker is a photographer trained as an architect.  His work has won Institute Honors from the American Institute of Architects, and is in major museum collections, including the MFA Boston.   He is the author of two books about architecture in Boston and is represented by Gallery NAGA Boston.

 

SELECTED ARTWORK
All selected work will be for sale for the duration of the exhibition at the BSA Space Photo Galleries at 290 Congress Street, Boston and will be featured on the BSA Space website.

 

ELIGIBILITY
This call for entries is open to all photographers, regardless of affiliation with the BSA/AIA or BSA Foundation. All artwork selected for the exhibition must be submitted in a black frame, matted, framed, with d-rings on the reverse.  There are no limits on size. Artists are responsible for all arrangements, costs, and execution of the delivery and pickup of artwork to and from BSA Space. Artists dropping off work are responsible for the removal and disposal of all shipping and packing materials, or their storage.

All works will be insured while on site at BSA Space for the full sale value. All works submitted must be complete and may not be exhibited if the work that arrives differs from the image submitted. Any accepted artwork will not, by any exception, be exhibited if not exhibition-ready upon drop-off. All artwork on exhibition must remain at BSA Space throughout the entire exhibition. Early removal of artwork is strictly prohibited.

 

ARTWORK INFORMATION
Artists should submit high-resolution images of each artwork submitted. Images must be a .jpg file, at least 1200 pixels wide. Each artist may submit up to five pieces and must provide: title, material (medium), price, dimensions, location, and year completed for each piece entered. All titles, materials, dimensions, and prices provided in the application will remain final.

 

ARTIST STATEMENT
Artists may submit a statement of 750 characters or less in the first person outlining the processes and inspiration specific to their entry.

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Artists may include a brief description of each piece up to 300 characters. Artists may briefly outline specific inspiration pertaining to the exhibition or unique processes used to create the work.

 

SALES
BSA Foundation will receive a 30 percent commission on all artwork sold. BSA Foundation will pay the artist 70 percent of the retail price of sold artwork within 30 days of the close of the exhibition. All artwork must be for sale and priced at fair market value, and prices reported in the application should take into consideration the commission split. All titles, mediums, and prices provided in the application will remain final.

 

SUBMISSION FEE
A submission fee of $25 is required for each artist submitting up to five pieces. Submission fee is waived for BSA members. Submission fees are nonrefundable.

Opening Reception: Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 6:00 pm
Exhibition Closes to the Public: January 3, 2020
Required Art Pickup: All unsold artwork must be picked up between January 4–6, 2019 between 10:00 am–5:00 pm.
