The Pittsburgh Watercolor Society celebrates its 74th anniversary with the Aqueous Open 2019 at Spinning Plate Gallery, 5821 Baum Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15206. Aqueous Open is the annual international PWS exhibit open to all participants, member or not. The exhibit runs from October 2 through November 2. Two pieces may be submitted.
Over $5,000 in cash and merchandise awards.

Eligibility: The PWS Aqueous Open 2019 Exhibition is open to all artists 18 or older, working primarily with water-based media on a paper surface (YUPO and Tyvek are permitted) and unvarnished. No canvas or panels.
Mediums include: Watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempura.
No pastels, class work, digital images, any form of print or reproductions, no more than 10% collage.
Artist's original work only. No copies or likenesses of another artist's work including published source or reference not attributable to the artist.
Work must have been completed within the last two years and not previously shown in a PWS exhibit. All paintings must be sturdily framed under glass or Plexiglas, plastic glazing for hand delivery, Shipped work must be Plexiglas ONLY. Framed works can be no larger that 40 inches in any direction.

Awards: Awards are selected from received work. The Best of Show award is $1,200, with over $5,000 in total cash and prize awards. Awards announced at the Reception on October 5.
Sales: All work must be for sale. The Artist will receive 60% of sale. Painting must be priced at current market value.
Paintings must hang until close of show. Buyers may pick up work Nov. 2, 2-4PM
Return of Unsold Works of art: Hand delivered work must be picked up Nov 2, 2-7PM.

Enter Online by July 1, 2019

Each artist may enter one or two pieces, but only one piece will be accepted.
Digital Files: Images must be professional quality, showing only the painted image, and be accurate for color catalog reproduction. All files must be saved in high-quality (maximum) jpg format. The dimensions must be 1920 or greater pixels on the long side. Resolution should be at least 72 dpi and the file size must be 5 MB or less.

Entry Fee: Entry fee for one or two pieces is $40 (US funds) for non-members and $30 (using a discount code) for Pittsburgh Watercolor Society members. Fee is non-refundable. You must register online. You can securely pay online using PayPal, even if you do not have a PayPal account. Instructions for paying by check will be provided online.

Shipped Work: Artists receive shipping instructions with notification of acceptance. Shipped work will be returned as promptly as possible. PWS and Spinning Plate Gallery will not be responsible for any return shipping charges.
PWS Membership Eligibility: Artists exhibiting in Aqueous Open two years out of five become eligible for PWS membership.Inquiries to: membership@pittsburghwatercolorsociety.com.
All accepted artists must complete a waiver of liability on delivery of their work for exhibit. Shipped work must include a signed copy of the waiver of liability.

Juror/Workshop Instructor: Frank Eber, AWS, NWS, TWSA
Frank grew up in Europe and was mentored by Italian master painter Renato Casaro in 1994 and 95. In the ’80s and ’90s, Frank worked as a professional illustrator for video cover sleeves and as a portrait artist by commission. He strives to create timeless art in both oil and water media and works in a direct, loose style influenced by the Old World Masters.
His love of travel has given him prime opportunities to paint. He lived for three years in the south of France, and has painted on location in many countries around the world. He is also an accomplished portrait painter.
Frank is an award-winning watercolor artist and Signature member of the American Watercolor Society (AWS), the National Watercolor Society (NWS) and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA). He is a juried Artist member of the prestigious California Art Club. Frank conducts workshops and demonstrations locally and at the national and international level.
