Call for Entries:

The Providence Art Club invites artists from throughout the United States to submit their recent work for an exciting open juried exhibition opportunity. Each year, the Art Club welcomes non-member artists from across the country to submit work for an annual open exhibition. This year's show will celebrate the best in contemporary art by makers from throughout the United States regardless of theme, style, or media. Founded in 1880, the Providence Art Club is one of the oldest arts organizations in the nation and the first such Club to be co-founded by women and men. We look forward to sharing the best in current visual arts from throughout the country with our unique audience in the Northeast.

 

Awards: 
Fourteen Prizes totaling $6,000 in awards
Best in Show Prize of $1,000

Eligibility:
Open to any artist living and working throughout the United States, its territories, protectorates, and provinces.

About our Exhibition Juror:

Gómez de Córdoba
Associate Curator, Museo de Arte de Ponce

Helena Gómez de Córdoba is an art historian and curatorial professional who currently serves as Associate Curator at the Museo de Arte de Ponce (MAP) in Ponce, Puerto Rico. At MAP, Helena is responsible for aiding in the institution’s regular exhibition schedule utilizing one of the most extensive collections of European Art in Latin America. Her work has included collaborations with the Frick Museum in New York, the Phillips Collection in Washington DC, the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao, Spain, the M - Museum Leuven in Leuven, Belgium, and the Plantin-Moretus Museum in Antwerp among others. An active member of the International Council of Museums, Ms. Gomez has traveled on behalf of MAP to locations throughout the United States and Europe. Prior to joining MAP she held positions in commercial art gallery settings in Madrid, Spain, and Providence, Rhode Island.

Ms. Gomez was raised outside Madrid and earned her Master’s Degree in the History of Art from the prestigious Courtauld Institute of Art in London. At the Courtauld, she specialized in prints, drawings, and circulation of knowledge in the global eighteenth century. Additionally, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island and has also completed coursework on exhibition administration with the NODE Center for Curatorial Studies. She is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.

Museo de Arte de Ponce is the largest art museum in the Caribbean and the first museum in Puerto Rico to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Housed in a landmark building designed by Edward Durrell Stone, MAP holds one of the largest and most respected collections of artworks from the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood anywhere in the Americas.

The Providence Art Club is thrilled to welcome an international curator of Ms. Gomez’s caliber to be the Exhibition Juror and Awards Judge for this important national call.

*Note: This Entry fee is for up to two images or two pieces of work. You are only required to submit one image with your entry, but you may submit up to two. For example, you may submit two different works and upload two images (1 image per work) or you may submit one work and upload two different images of that single piece.

 

Rules and Regulations: 
Entries must be original artworks completed within the last four years. All works in the exhibition must be for sale (no "price on request" allowed). Works not properly prepared will not be installed. Hanging apparatus must be secured to the artwork. Three-dimensional works may not be heavier than 100 lbs. The Providence Art Club reserves the right to reject works that are deemed unstable, that differ from the submitted digital image and or description of work, or that are not professionally presented. Please contact Gallery Manager Michael Rose with questions about preparation. 

Sales Commission:
25% for PAC members; 40% for non-members 

Notification:
Accepted artists will be e-mailed directly on May 24 and will also receive a phone call notification from the gallery. Names of artists who will be featured in the National Open Juried Exhibition will also be listed at  www.providenceartclub.org/about/open-calls, after 12pm on Friday, May 24.

Delivery:
Accepted submissions should be delivered to the Providence Art Club, 11 Thomas Street, Providence, RI 02903 from Monday, June 3 and Friday, June 21, 2019 between 12 - 4pm on weekdays and 2 - 4pm on weekends in the Dodge House Gallery. Shipped works should be addressed to the attention of Gallery Manager Michael Rose. Works delivered late will not be included in the exhibition.

Shipping:
Shipping costs are the responsibility of the artist. A paid return mail label, including insurance (please ask your carrier to determine this amount), must accompany work. We suggest air float style boxes, or similar packaging for ease of unwrapping and rewrapping. Please do not use loose packing peanuts in shipping. If artwork cannot be repacked in original materials, the artist must supply additional packaging. If packing materials and shipping payment are not included, the work will not be installed or returned.

Removal:
All exhibited work must be picked up (or return shipping arrangements made) between August 6 - 9, 2019. Please note, the Art Club will be closed for its annual two week summer break July 21 - August 4, 2019.

Insurance:
The Providence Art Club carries a blanket policy covering fire, theft, and breakage. The insurance value is considered 2/3 of the sale price, but no more than $250. Artists are encouraged to provide insurance riders for their work if it is of high retail value.

Photography / Publicity:
The Providence Art Club reserves the right to photograph work for publicity. By entering your work in the Providence Art Club Open Juried Exhibition, you agree to the use of your name, likeness, certain personal information and artwork in any publicity material developed for the exhibition.

Images:
Please submit at least one digital image to the CaFE website (https://www.callforentry.org) to apply to this exhibition. You may submit a maximum of two digital images.

If you would like assistance applying to this exhibition please email Michael Rose, Gallery Manager at michael@providenceartclub.org as soon as possible. The gallery staff is also available to photograph artwork if you need a digital image of the piece you plan on submitting. There is a $25 fee for this service.
