You are invited to submit an existing/completed sculpture for Lakewood’s Art on the Commons outdoor, rotating sculpture exhibit. Six sculptures will be selected for display in Lakewood’s City Commons (an urban plaza located between the Civic Center and the Cultural Center buildings with more than 60,000 visitors a year) and other prominent City of Lakewood locations. Artists whose sculptures are selected for this exhibit will receive a $600 honorarium and will be eligible for the purchase award from the Alameda Connects, the Alameda Corridor Business Improvement District. Sculptures will be installed in late May 2019 and will remain on display for one calendar year. With an additional People’s Choice Award of $500 for one of the selected sculptures!
Specifications: Any style in a durable outdoor ready medium will be considered, but artwork must be able to withstand Colorado’s weather including wind.
Contract: The artist’s contract/loan agreement with the City of Lakewood must be executed before any artwork is installed. Artists are responsible for transport to and from the exhibit site. The City of Lakewood will provide insurance for the artwork during the exhibit at a mutually agreed limit.

Publicity: The City of Lakewood will produce a brochure for Art on the Commons and advertise in our “BRAVO” magazine and on Lakewood’s website. In addition, press releases will be issued and the City will seek to get media coverage of the project.

- Sculpture must be a minimum of 36 inches in height with Maximun base/footprint dimensions of 34 x 34 or 30" x 46". Maxium height is 15'.
- Pedestals will be provided by the City of Lakewood. The pedestals are fixed and limited in size (see above).
- Each submission must be capable of being welded or securely fastened to a ¼-inch steel plate. Bases must be fabricated or prepared by the artist to be ready for installaitonon the City's pedestal.
- The curator, prior to installation, must approve the steel plate or any base provided by the artist and the curator reserves the right to refuse sculptures that are of poor quality or smaller or larger than represented in hte submission.
- Artists are responsible for transport to and from the exhibit site.
