PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS

Artists are required to submit 1-3 color conceptual renderings of proposed artwork.  Artists must also submit 1-3 relevant examples of work that depict the artistic style they intend to use for the project.

Per the Silverthorne Arts and Culture Strategic Plan, the community desires art that is multi-cultural & diverse, welcoming, relaxed & natural, creative & progressive, playful & colorful, adventurous & energized.  The plan has a 4-part mission, of which part 3 describes, “We will make the theatre, the Pavilion, the green space and plazas around the theatre and the bridges across the Blue River important areas for community gatherings.  This will be a place for all parts of the community to come together for planned artistic, cultural and heritage festivals, performances, celebrations, and exhibitions.  It will be an informal gathering place to experience a public art installation, learn about the past, sit by a fireside and listen to the river, or meet other members of our community.  The complex will be the primary place for artistic expression.”

The mural is located in the high-traffic area described above.  There is no defined theme for the project; however, the selection committee seeks a mural that has an interactive quality based on optical illusion.  Criteria used to select artwork includes, but is not limited to, suitability of design for site, aesthetic quality, broad-based interest and appeal for all ages and quality of artist’s previous works.  Diversity in content is encouraged and art may be representational or abstract.  Art may not contain advertising, logos or copyrighted images, and political, commercial, religious or sexual themes will not be considered.  Designs should be picture-based, not word-based.  Any text in the design should be incidental to the design and not the focal point.

Artists may include their name and/or signature, a website and/or a hashtag and the year of the project (2019) in the design.

Artist is required to use high quality exterior paint that will withstand the outdoor elements for a 3 year period.  Sealants or anti-graffiti applications are encouraged.
