The Outdoor Venue- Lakeside
Up to 50 sculptors will be selected to participate in the Sculpture Walk surrounding the lakeside of world class resort Chetola, a popular summer destination since 1846. Surrounded by the Blue Ridge mountains and just off the famed Blue Ridge Parkway is the sophisticated tourist mecca, Blowing Rock, voted one of “ America’s Best Small Towns”. The 87 acre resort will host the Sculpture Walk- Friday-Sunday August 9-11.

A Schedule of Art Events in Blowing Rock and within the resort run all weekend attracting large numbers of affluent travelers, art patrons in a family friendly atmosphere. All events are connected via sidewalks, free parking and easily accessed with a free shuttle service running between events. The town offers a relaxed, inviting and stress free retreat.
Purpose: The Sculpture Walk on Chetola Lake is a national competitive Exhibition offering emerging, mid-career and professional Sculptors a notable venue. The opportunity to meet new patrons and the distinguished juror, Dr. Lawrence Wheeler, who is hailed as North Carolina's most powerful cultural force. Open to the Public.
Sculptors are invited to attend complimentary " Starry Night" an illuminated Sculpture Awards Dinner under the Stars with The Starlight Orchestra.
Types of Work Accepted: We encourage all types and manner of sculpture including site specific installations. Preference given to mid and large scale works . The selection committee encourages socially engaging and thought provoking works of art, however, the selection committee will not accept what is deemed offensive or works that create a negative public reaction. Sculpture entered for jury selection must be “original” whether fabricated by the artist or not. Cast items can include Bronze, resin, 3D printed, plaster, concrete, found and recycled objects, stone, stone aggregate, natural and man-made materials, wood, steel, aluminum, copper, and all metals and manner of finishes or patina. All works should tolerate weather conditions.
Number of works accepted: You may install up to (3) works of scale. We will have manpower and volunteers available. Smaller scale works, we will accept up to (6) Please let us know if you may require a larger footprint than 16' x 16'. We will curate pieces in advance for specific placement, however, we reserve the right to change a site plan based on final entries. If you have works to be exhibited on pedestals, you must supply.
Method of Selection: A qualified selection committee comprised of professional artists, community leaders and art consultants. Digital images should accurately capture representative "body of work" and the intent to exhibit similar works. We realize you may seel works prior to this Exhibit. You are accepted based on the " body of work" and the sculptor may choose work to display once accepted. NOTE: If you plan on a conceptual site-specific work that is constructed and installed on site, please forward a sketch or dimensional details of this work. email
Sales: No commissions on sales
Registration Fee: $100. payable upon being "Accepted" by selection committee. You will be sent a confirmation email of "acceptance" and promptly pay the fee to reserve your space. You may pay by mailed CHECK or Paypal Invoice: Councill Fine Art Studio, LLC- 173 Vail Drive, Blowing Rock, NC 28605. Register early to secure a reserved space.
Sculptor Responsibility: Registered sculptors will be responsible for set-up of sculpture. We will assist you with all logistics and if you need a Crane or Boom truck let us know. We have a forklift for palletized works. The site property is sloped in areas and level lawn. Works will maintain a set-back of 15' from lake. Adequate base platforms; pallets, wood or metal can be secured to ground by weighted objects or stakes. Metal or wood stakes can be driven into ground. Tie off and cables cannot create hazards. No invasive digging is allowed. You do not have to stay with your sculpture, but we prefer you have some interfacing with viewing public.

Publicity: Our media partners include regional, state and southeastern media saturation, print and online magazine exposure, Social media campaigns, print and programs distribution and a video of artists interviews for release. When you are "Invited" and registered please send on a 220-300DPI photo of (1) represenative work for publicity and website listing for thesculpturewalk.com and email photo and your website/instagram/facebook link.
