JUROR:


Legacy Russell is a curator, writer, and artist. Born and raised in New York City, she is the Associate Curator of Exhibitions at The Studio Museum in Harlem.

Russell’s academic, curatorial, and creative work focuses on gender, performance, digital selfdom, internet idolatry, and new media ritual. She has lectured internationally on the intersection of art, the Internet, and feminism; a selection of engagements include Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, Rewire Festival 2018, IMPAKT Festival 2017, and The London School of Economics. In 2017, Russell hosted the Serpentine Marathon GUEST, GHOST, HOST: MACHINE! in London. Her first book, Glitch Feminism, is forthcoming from Verso Books. Russell’s written work, interviews, and essays and can be found in BOMB Magazine, The White Review, Rhizome, Guernica, Berfrois, Screen Shot Magazine, and beyond.

Russell holds a dual-major B.A. with Honors from Macalester College in Art History & Studio Art and English & Creative Writing with a focus in Gender Studies, and an MRes with Distinction in Art History from Goldsmiths, University of London with a focus in Visual Culture

ELIGIBILITY: National artists 18 years or older with current Hudson Valley MOCA membership. Original works accepted in all media, executed during the past two years, and never previously exhibited at Hudson Valley MOCA.

ENTRY FEE: A non-refundable $10 fee will be charged for each submitted image of an artwork. Each entry must be paid in full. Check, Visa, Discover, Mastercard, or American Express will be accepted through the CaFÉ site.

SUBMISSIONS:  Online CAFE entry due June 30, 2019. POSTAL ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Artists may submit up to four images of artwork. CaFÉ is an online application and jury management system for calls for entry. Visit www.callforentry.org for more information.

MEMBERSHIP: You must have a current Hudson Valley MOCA Membership to be eligible to submit your work. If you are not a current member, Hudson Valley MOCA reserves the right to remove your work from the jurying process with the loss of entry fees as a result.

GUIDELINES FOR ARTWORK:

  • Up to four works per artist may be submitted.

  • All two-dimensional work must be framed and/or ready for installation with hanging hardware, wire, or d-rings already installed on work, and the entire work must not exceed 84 inches in any dimension. The work cannot exceed 75 pounds. Pieces without hanging hardware will not be included in the exhibition.

  • Three-dimensional work cannot exceed 84 inches in any dimension and should be accompanied by a pedestal/or be ready for display as a freestanding or self-containing work. The work cannot exceed 75 lbs.

  • Hudson Valley MOCA will accept installations that have been previously created. All work requiring assembly or any work with a complex installation procedure must be accompanied by a detailed set of installation instructions with reference photos from previous installations. Verbal instructions will not suffice.

  • Artist must provide equipment to be used in the installation of any video or sound work.

  • Hudson Valley MOCA prohibits glitter, wet paint, sharp objects, open flames, balloons, spray (perfumes, hairsprays, etc), dangerous chemicals, weapons, pressurized containers, plants or animals (alive or dead), hazardous materials (explosive, flammable, or perishable), decaying materials (visible mold or insect infestation), or anything deemed harmful to the Museum’s collection. Anything of question should be cleared by the Exhibitions Department by contacting info@hudsonvalleymoca.org.

SELECTED WORKS: Selected works must be delivered ready to hang/display. Artworks considered unsuitable for hanging/presentation will be refused. Curatorial staff reserves the right to refuse an artwork that is misrepresented through documentation or is not the piece selected by the juror.

SHIPPED ARTWORK: The deadline for receipt of shipped artwork is July 26, 2019. If work is not at Hudson Valley MOCA by July 26, 2019, we reserve the right to not include it in the exhibition. Any artwork being shipped must include return postage/shipping fee that must be received before the end of the exhibition (September 8, 2019). In the case of inadequate or nonexistent return postage, works will be considered abandoned property and disposed of as Hudson Valley MOCA sees fit. All artwork should be packaged in a manner that will allow for the materials to be re-used for return shipping. Otherwise please include materials for return packaging. Please do not ship artwork with packing peanuts. Works should be shipped via FEDEX, UPS, or DHL only to 1701 Main Street, Peekskill, NY, 10566.

HAND DELIVERED ARTWORK: Hudson Valley MOCA will accept hand deliveries of accepted works on Tuesday July 16, Tuesday July 23, or by appointment. Work can be delivered to Hudson Valley MOCA, 1701 Main St, Peekskill, NY between 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Hand delivered works can be picked up from Hudson Valley MOCA on September 17 and by appointment thereafter.

SALES: We encourage the sale of artwork; however work does not have to be for sale if selected for the exhibition. Hudson Valley MOCA will not deduct a commission for any sale of work in the exhibition. HVMOCA will not serve as a third party for sales; we will provide artist contact information to any individuals inquiring about purchases.
