About the Show:
The 40th Annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale is an invitational event that features world class Western art from 60-65 artists across the United States and Canada. The number of open spots each year varies but traditionally there is only room for 2-4 new artists. The show will run from July 16th- August 16th, 2020.This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the CFD Old West Museum; a private, 501(c) 3 not-for-profit institution.

Submitted Works:
Artwork must have a Western subject matter. Please provide a portfolio of 5 pieces, your website, a list of gallery representation, a list of recent shows/awards, and any publications featuring your work. Notifications will go out by October 15th. If invited into the show all artwork should be new and must remain on exhibit until the show closes. The committee reserves the right of refusal to display artwork deemed inappropriate either for the show or based on age or previous showings.

Rules of the show if invited:

Originals & Multiples:
All works must be originals. No photos, laser, giclee, or digital reproductions accepted. All works having multiples (Printmaking or Sculpture) must be disclosed and the number of multiples available for sale must be submitted on piece list. Let us know if you have multiples but with various patinas.

Method of Sale:
Each artist will have a personal sales associate for the show opening. Buyers will place a competitive intent-to-purchase slip in the box for each work they wish to purchase. Slips are then drawn during the Sale Drawing, the first buyer drawn gets the piece, they have 20 min to claim it or they can decline then the second buyer gets the chance to buy. Work will also be listed for a “Jump the Gun” price with a 25% markup (artists receive 30% of mark up amount). Buyers who want to avoid the drawing can pay the premium to buy the piece before the Sale Drawing begins. In addition, a Museum patron will purchase one piece for the permanent collection.

Commissions:
All art should be priced to allow a 35% commission in support of the CFD Old West Museum.  Any exhibited work sold or commissioned as a result of the show is subject to the 35% sales commission.

Display:
All work will be displayed at the CFD Old West Museum in the Carriage Hall and East Gallery. All artwork must be ready to hang and/or display; 2-D work must have a wire hang system. All pieces for the show must arrive show ready, appropriately framed and wired to hang, matted and/or mounted. Works must hang flat against the wall. We will NOT accept saw tooth clamps or protruding eye screws. Tape wire ends and it is preferred that Plexiglass be used for media under glass but Museum Grade glass will be accepted. Any artwork or display concerns need to be discussed with the Curator of Exhibits and/or Curator of Collections prior to delivery. All final decisions regarding mounts/displays, including right of refusal, will reside solely with Museum Curatorial staff. Any extra materials, outside of the artwork, intended for the display are NOT allowed.

Physical Work Size Limitations:
Due to the panel size on which we hang the show 2-D pieces must be under 47 inches wide and 60 inches tall including the frame. If you would like to submit something larger it will have to be approved in advance by the Committee and Museum Curatorial staff.

Please note that the museum is located near a regional airport and an US Air National Guard base. If deemed necessary by curatorial staff, you will be asked to sign a liability wavier should stability questions arise.
