Slice: A Juried Exhibit of Regional Art 2019

ELIGIBILITY AND MEDIA:
The Pence’s Sliceexhibit, now in its 7th year, is open to California artists, and showcases work in all media that is conceptually thoughtful, technically skilled, and representative of contemporary trends in art. Work may be in any medium, but must be 3’ wide maximum or under for wall work.  There are no size restrictions for three-dimensional work. Work must not exceed 100 lb, and be ready to install. Accepted work should be original, completed within the past five years, and remain at Pence Gallery during the entire exhibit. Applicants must submit between 1-3 images of work for review, along with an artist statement, at www.callforentry.org, and pay a fee of $30/$35 for non-Pence members. 

 

DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORK:
Accepted work may be hand-delivered between July 5-6, or shipped and insured by the artist to the Pence by July 6th. Expenses for shipping to and from the Gallery are the responsibility of the artist. 

 

MERIT AWARDS: 
Monetary awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be awarded based on the Juror’s choice and are $400, $300 and $200. 

 

LIABILITY:
The Pence Gallery will insure all artwork while it is on the premises, through August 20. Each artist must complete an artist's contract when they are accepted. All work must be picked up or shipped, between Aug.19-20, unless other arrangements are made. 

 

JUROR: Julia Couzens

Julia Couzens’s drawings and textile-based constructions have been shown internationally, most recently at Patricia Sweetow Gallery in San Francisco.  Her work is held in numerous museum and public collections, including the Berkeley Art Museum, Crocker Art Museum, Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, Oakland Museum of California, and Yale University. Couzens has been recognized with a Louis Comfort Tiffany Fellowship and she has been a visiting artist and adjunct faculty at University of California, Davis and Santa Cruz; California State University, Sacramento; Scripps College of the Claremont Colleges; the San Francisco Art Institute; and University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She also writes on contemporary art for The Sacramento Beeand squarecylinder.com.

LOCATION:
The Pence is a nonprofit art gallery, established in 1975, whose mission is to educate and inspire the community by exhibiting high caliber art by local and regional artists. This exhibit will be displayed in the Main Gallery, measuring 1000 sq. ft., with 12’ ceilings.

SALES
Sales are encouraged. Indicate on the entry form whether or not the work is for sale. The Pence Gallery will retain a 40% commission on all work sold. Prices quoted on the entry form may not be changed after acceptance into the show.
