Prospectus:
A juried exhibit dedicated to the presentation of functional ceramics, focusing on the fine art of dining, to include serving vessels, place settings, platters and dinner table décor. Proceeds from the sale of work, and associated events that will showcase the work, will benefit the Art Students League of Denver and its ceramics program.
Art Students League of Denver
Is an inclusive and inspiring art community where members of all abilities are guided by professional artists to reach their highest potential. Modeled on the famous Art Students League of New York, the Art Students League of Denver first opened its doors in 1987 with a handful of recognized artists teaching over one hundred students its first year. Today, located in the historic Sherman School in the West Washington Park area at 200 Grant Street, ASLD engages over 1,000 students a month with over 100 noted artists who teach diverse fine art classes throughout the year, including a ceramics program now in its 16th year. A membership based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, ASLD is supported by private donations, tuition, foundation grants and the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). digital images are required.
January 19, 2020 Application process closes at midnight. Payment is due at
time of application.
Jan 22-Feb 2, 2020 Juror, Liz Zlot Summefield, will review electronic images online
and selection process will take place.
February 10, 2020 Artist notification begins.
March 9-13, 2020 Accepted work(s) due at ASLD’s Gallery at 200 Grant Street,
Denver, CO. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and
from ASLD.
March 20, 2020 Select images available for viewing online at ASLD.org
April 16, 2020 Opening Reception Exhibit Preview Thursday from 6-9pm at
the Art Students League of Denver Gallery.
April 17 – May 22, 2020 delecTABLE Exhibit on view and open to public at the Art
Students League of Denver Gallery. All artwork will be for sale.
April 30, 2020 Slide lecture by ceramicist and juror, Liz Zlot Summerfield at
ASLD.
May 1, 2020 Artists Reception – Friday, 5:30-8pm at the Art Students League
of Denver Gallery. Announcement of Awards and meet the
juror, Liz Zlot Summerfield.
May 2-3, 2020 Demo workshop by Liz Zlot Summerfield at ASLD. Info and

June 1, 2020 Shipment and pick up of unsold work begins
Submission Requirements:
included at a dinner table, i.e. place settings, serving vessels and platters, functional
sets, or dinner table décor (vases, candle holders, etc.). Please note that the number
#1 image submitted may be used for publicity purposes, provided that the image is
high resolution.
• Work submitted must be innovative and original in design and must be a personal
expression of the artist’s intent.
• Work submitted through the application process must be the actual work that will be
displayed during the exhibit. The juror will select work on this basis. If submitting
images of place settings, please expect to send a set of at least four place settings of
the work based on the associated image, if that work is selected for the exhibit.
• Works must be made entirely out of ceramic materials (exceptions are limited to
handles, knobs or other accents made out of cane, wood, wire etc., that are an
integral part of the piece).
• Work submitted for review must have been completed by the artist within the past
three (3) years and not shown previously at delecTABLE.
• Size restrictions: each piece or set may not exceed 30 inches in any dimension or 20
pounds in weight.
• Accepted work which displays poor craftsmanship (including glaze flaws and cracks)
or does not represent the pieces submitted as digital entries will be withdrawn from
the exhibit.
• All ceramic work entered must be for sale. The artist receives 60% of the sale price.
• Sale proceeds will be paid to the artist within 30 days of the end of the exhibition.
• Designated awards for select artworks will be announced at Artist Reception and
paid to recipients within 30 days of the end of the exhibition.
Entry Fee:
There is a nonrefundable entry fee of $30. You may submit up five pieces for consideration, which may include one full and one detail image of each piece of artwork.
Payment is by Visa/MasterCard through CAFÉ.
Freight and Insurance:
The artist is responsible for freight and insurance on the work to and from Art Students League of Denver. ASLD is responsible for insurance during the exhibition. When you ship your piece(s) for the exhibit, you must include a pre-paid UPS or FedEx return shipping label in the box with your work. If no return shipping label is enclosed, we will hold your work and ship once we receive the pre-paid shipping label. Pieces not sold during the exhibit will be returned in their original packaging. Details regarding packaging requirements will be provided with the acceptance letter. Local artists may arrange to hand-deliver and pick up accepted work.
Marketing:
There will be designated awards for select artworks up to $500. Produced by the Art Students League of Denver, the exhibit will be marketed through ASLD.org website and course catalog, event postcards, and local print media. This exhibit and the associated delecTABLE fundraising events will feature the work of 30-40 national artists, and current ASLD ceramics faculty. A complimentary, invitational culinary-themed two dimensional exhibit will be displayed in conjunction with the delecTABLE exhibit.
Sales and Insurance:
All work must be available for sale. ASLD retains 40% commission of the sales price. Insurance will be set at 60% of sale value. ASLD will not be responsible for loss or damage to work in transit to or from ASLD. All accepted work that is not sold during the exhibit must either be picked up or will be shipped back to the artist within 30 days of the exhibit. If artwork is to be picked up rather than shipped, the ASLD will not be responsible for loss, theft or damaged work after 14 days of the last day of the exhibit.

• Deadline for submissions is January 19, 2020
• Include a $30 nonrefundable application fee and a separate return UPS or Fedex
shipping label.
• Artists’ works will be selected based on a submission of a maximum of five (5)
functional ceramic pieces or sets shown in five separate images, with an
option to add one detail shot for each piece or set submitted.
• Each professional quality image must be in JPEG (.jpg) format, 300 DPI, 1920 x
1920 and must conform to CAFÉ’s file size specifications. If you wish to have your
images considered for promotional materials, files must be submitted within the high
resolution specifications.
• Information to be included with CAFÉ entry form:
- Title (Name of piece(s) submitted)
- Dimensions (width, height and depth)
- Price
- Date made
- Description of materials and techniques, including type of clay, building/throwing-
- technique and glazing/firing process and temperature
- Artist Bio
- Artist Website, if applicable
