THE NATURE OF DISAPPEARANCE

October 10 - November 30, 2019

Silverwood Park invites artists who are at least 18 years old and reside primarily in the Midwest to submit work to be considered for a juried exhibition The Nature of Disappearance. Juror: Mara Duvra. Deadline: August 1, 2019

Description of Exhibition
The Nature of Disappearance asks artists to reflect on the environmental crisis we face and the loss at stake. Human activity impacts ecosystems across the planet from ice caps to rainforests, causing nature to vanish at accelerated rates. These dramatic declines in biodiversity, habitat, and resources require immediate action. We invite artists to submit work that encourages viewers to recognize what we stand to lose and inspires transformative change to preserve and protect what remains.

Work can be 2-D and 3-D, representational or abstract. Framed worked should not measure more than 40 inches in width. 3-D work must fit on a 15 x 15 inch pedestal or be freestanding. Video accepted.

About the Juror
Mara Duvra
is a visual artist, writer, and curator. Her research-based practice combines photography, poetry, and video to create installations that explore stillness and interiority as critical modes of self-study. Duvra’s current body of work, Tending: meditations on interiority and blackness, uses poetic and ephemeral imagery to understand Blackness beyond resistance or public identity.

Duvra is originally from Maryland and received a BA in studio art and psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and an MFA in studio art from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Her work has been featured in local galleries such as Soo Visual Arts Center, Public Functionary, and Yeah Maybe, and she has held artist residencies at the Soap Factory and the White Page. Duvra is currently a curator at the Waiting Room at Gallery 71 and an instructor of painting and drawing at Saint Paul Academy and Summit School.
