Michigan artists are encouraged to submit their work for Michigan Now, CTAC’s 2019 Juried Fine Arts Exhibition. Works in all media are eligible. Monetary prizes will be awarded in the amounts of $1,000, $500, and $250. UICA Curator, Juana Williams, will serve as the juror.

 

Michigan Now will be presented at Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey from September 21 - November 9, 2019. The opening reception will be on Saturday, September 21, from 2-4 p.m. Awards will be announced at the opening.This opportunity is open to Michigan-based artists and CTAC members regardless of where they reside.

 

The entry deadline is July 24, 2019.


Applicant Calendar

  • Entries accepted online at www.callforentry.org: May 23 - July 24, 2019

  • Notification of acceptance will be sent by email no later than:  August 9, 2019

  • Accepted work to be delivered to Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey: September 3-9, 2019, during posted gallery hours

  • Opening Reception: Saturday, September 21, 2019, 2-4 p.m.

  • Exhibit Dates: September 21 - November 9, 2019

  • Pick-up/Return of unsold artwork: November 12-18, 2019, during posted gallery hours

 

Eligibility

Michigan Now is open to all Michigan residents, and to members of the Crooked Tree Arts Center regardless of where they reside.  Applicants must be 18 years or older.


Entry Procedure

Entry is through CaFÉ (www.callforentry.org). You must create a username and password to use this system. Once you have an account with “CaFÉ,” you can upload your images for this and other calls. Here are some guidelines:
 

  • Artist may enter up to three works in any medium

  • Works must be submitted as digital files formatted per standard CaFÉ specifications:

    • File format: JPEG only

    • File dimensions: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side

    • File size: 5 MB maximum

  • Please make sure that your email address is accurate. You will receive an email notification regarding acceptance. You can also check the status of your submission through CaFÉ.

  • Accepted work must be delivered to Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey on September 3-9, 2019, during posted gallery hours.

  • Works must be delivered to the Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey at 461 E. Mitchell St., Petoskey, MI, 49770.

  • Artists must complete the entire entry form including medium or description of process, title, size, and price of the work.

  • CTAC is a sales gallery and sales will be encouraged. You may not alter the price of work after submitting your application.

  • You may not enter work for another artist.

  • All work must be original.

  • Each artist may submit maximum of three entries.

  • Works must not have been previously exhibited at Crooked Tree Arts Center.

  • Artwork that differs significantly from the entry image, or suffers from poor presentation, may not be included.

  • 2D works must be properly framed, wired, and/or ready for hanging.

  • A non-refundable fee of $35.00 per artist is required for entry (CTAC members $20.00, GUILD members free).   • Accepted work may NOT be removed until after the close of the show.

  • Work must be picked up between November 12-18, 2019, during posted gallery hours.

  • Work not picked up by November 18, 2019 becomes property of the Crooked Tree Arts Center unless prior arrangements have been made CTAC staff. The artist forfeits any claim to the work and the Crooked Tree Arts Center cannot be held responsible for any method of disposal arising from forfeiture.   


Juror
Juana Williams, Exhibitions Curator at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA). Williams holds a BA in Art and an MA in Art History, both from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Prior to joining UICA, Williams held multiple positions at various art institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, the Wayne State University Art Department Gallery, the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.


Williams is passionate about community engagement, elevating diverse voices, and giving a platform to artists for innovative expressions. She continually advocates for liberating artists and preserving art-centered spaces. She creates exhibitions to work as a catalyst for dialogue centered on current cultural topics, to support artists, and to promote the power of visual arts.

 


Artwork Delivery and Pick-Up

Shipped Work: Artists are responsible for the delivery and pick-up of their work. Shipped work must be adequately packed for shipping. Any work to be shipped back to the artist must include re-usable packaging and a pre-paid shipping label. There is a handling cost of $25 per artist for shipped work. If the work is hand delivered and picked up at the end of the show this fee does not apply.

  • Works must be delivered to CTAC - Petoskey between September 3-9, 2019. Please attach a legible identification label to each piece, clearly labeled with artist contact information, title, media/process, and price.

  • Work may NOT be removed until after the close of the show.

  • Work must be picked up between November 12-18, 2019, during posted gallery hours.

  • Work not picked up by November 18, 2019 becomes property of the Crooked Tree Arts Center unless prior arrangements have been made with CTAC staff. The artist forfeits any claim to the work and the Crooked Tree Arts Center cannot be held responsible for any method of disposal arising from forfeiture.


Sales and Commission

  • The retail price of the work may not be changed after submitting the works to jury.

  • Crooked Tree Arts Center will retain a 40% commission on any work sold from the exhibition. The artist will receive 60% of the retail price.

  • Purchased work may not be removed from the gallery before the exhibition closes.

  • Payment for sales will be mailed on the 10th of the month following the sale.


Liability

All reasonable care will be taken when handling artwork. While on the premises, all works are covered by CTAC Galleries’ liability insurance, limited to the CTAC’s cost of the work, 60% of the retail price.


Reproduction

Once accepted into the exhibition, CTAC is granted permission for reproduction of artwork for promotion and archive purposes. Entry into exhibition constitutes agreement with this understanding.
