Event Summary
Montgomery Bell Academy is pleased to announce the MBA 2019 Art Show, a traditional gallery-style, juried show featuring approximately 55 local and regional artists. We are delighted to share that this year’s featured artist is Logan Hicks, an urban stencil artist based in New York City, internationally well known for his participation in the Urban Underground art movement, and famed, among other artistic feats, for his larger than life mural on the Bowery Wall in Manhattan.
The gallery-style show hangs from Thursday November 7 through Sunday, November 10, 2019. The opening reception on Thursday, November 7, 2019 (6-9 PM) will be a festive strolling event with the featured artist, live music, passed hors d’oeuvres, and a complimentary wine and beer bar. This evening is open to the public, and artists' presence is required. The exhibit will be open to the public again on Saturday, November 9th from 10 AM until 4 PM, as well as on Sunday, November 10th from 1 PM until 4 PM. Artists are required to be present during show hours on Thursday and Saturday. Artists are encouraged to be present during show hours on Sunday. Several private MBA-sponsored events are planned around the art show during the weekend. Proceeds from the art show sales benefit and support MBA Mother’s Club activities and the fine arts program at MBA.
General Information
The MBA Art Show takes place in the Davis Arts Building on the MBA Campus. Recently renovated, the Davis Building is designed to display art in a sophisticated, state-of-the-art gallery setting. Each artist is allocated a designated wall space in the gallery, and can bring as many paintings as fit in the designated space. (We suggest measuring out your works in advance to anticipate planned hanging.) Wall spaces are assigned based on space considerations; unfortunately, we cannot accommodate special requests for artist location. (Please note that the artists’ spaces are not constructed booths, but permanent wall space that is part of the Davis Gallery.)
Most artists who exhibit in this show are local or regional artists, with the exception of MBA alumni.
MBA provides artist signage and artwork labels.

Application Process and Artist Selection
Approximately 55 artists will be invited to participate. The majority of artists work in oils, acrylics, watercolors, pen and ink, and mixed media; the show also includes digital art, photography, jewelry and sculpture. Artists are chosen by a designated selection committee whose members represent a variety of backgrounds including artists, educators, and supporters.
Artist applications must be accompanied by a short artist bio (no more than 5 sentences) and 8 (eight) to 10 (ten) digital images of artwork to be used on MBA’s website, social media, and printed art show materials. Images must be current and represent the quality, average price points, average size of pieces, and style of work you plan to exhibit.
Images should be high resolution (if needed, refer to CaFE’s Image Preparation information, addressed via the help center).
Exhibiting 2-D artists will be allocated a designated wall space in the gallery, and can bring as many paintings that fit in the designated space. Wall spaces are assigned based on space considerations. Those exhibiting carving, sculpture or jewelry will have ample table space to display their work.
Rules/Regulations
All works exhibited must be for sale and must be original works of art. No commercial reproductions are permitted; a small number of limited, signed, high-quality reproductions may be allowed, with permission. Please email mbaarts@montgomerybell.edu with inquiries.
The eight (8) - ten (10) images submitted must accurately represent the artist’s work and be of the same quality, average price points, consistency, and style that will be exhibited.
Exhibiting artists agree to allow the MBA Art Show to use images and artist bios for promotional purposes in email, social media, and printed materials.
Exhibiting artists agree to the placement decisions of the MBA Art Show; special requests for location/wall placement cannot be accommodated.
Exhibiting artists agree that the MBA Art Show will receive 30% of each sale, with the artist receiving 70%. All sales tax is the responsibility of the artist.
Exhibiting artists agree to hang their own artwork; MBA will provide nails and picture hangers.
On or before October 28, 2019, each exhibiting artist agrees to provide an inventory list of all pieces, including title, medium, dimensions, and price.
