2019 Invitation to Sculptors
Indiana University East (IUE) invites you to participate in our 2019-2021 juried, on-loan, outdoor sculpture exhibit on the Richmond, Indiana campus. IUE is a regional campus of Indiana University with a vibrant arts program and extensive art collection. Selected artists must be willing to enter into an Art Loan Agreement with IUE and will be awarded an honorarium of $2,500 per piece.
Deadline for Submissions: July 7, 2019
Jury will make selections and inform artists by: July 12, 2019
Delivery: Selected sculptures must be delivered to IUE between August 19, 2019-August 23, 2019
Exhibition Schedule: August 26, 2019-July 30, 2021
Sculptures to be removed: within one month of the exhibit’s closing on July 30, 2021
Eligibility: Artists must own the rights to the artwork, which must be available for the duration of the two-year exhibition period. Artwork must be ready to set on our 8’x8’ concrete pads. The installation method for each sculpture should be welded steel tabs or similar easy-install method.
The exhibit is outdoors and open to the public, because of this, certain requirements must be met in order for a sculpture to be considered for display. Fragile or dangerous works will not be accepted. Artwork must be available for the duration of the two-year contract, and must be constructed of durable materials that will withstand year-round Indiana weather.
Transportation: Selected artists are responsible for transportation of the artwork to and from the installation site. The artwork must be delivered as exhibition-ready. The university will supervise installation of the work, and will insure the artwork for the duration of the exhibit.
Submission Details: Artists may submit up to two sculptures for consideration, but each submission will be considered separately. Each submission must include the following:
A bio/resume describing your experience and exhibition history
Short artists statement about the submitted pieces
3 images (front, back, and 1 detail)
Dimensions for each submission and stated insurance value for each artwork. Each sculpture entry must be submitted individually.
You may register at café.org and complete your profile to sign up for the IUE Call for Entry. Please read it carefully and if you have any questions, contact clongley@iue.edu. A contract will be sent upon your acceptance.

1. Indiana University East will rely on the information supplied by the Lender on this form to identify the Works, including the identity and contact information for the Lender.
2. The Works shall remain in the possession of Indiana University East for the Loan Period, but may be withdrawn from exhibition at any time by the Indiana University East Gallery Director in his or her sole discretion. Works will be returned only to the Lender or his or her duly authorized agent or representative.
3. Unless permission is expressly denied in writing, the Lender agrees that the Works may be photographed, telecast, or reproduced for publicity purposes connected with the exhibition of the Works and for illustration in a related catalogue and/or other publications for educational or publication purposes, and that slides of the Works may be made and distributed for educational or publicity purposes as authorized by Indiana University East.
4. Indiana University East will give reasonable notice in writing if it desires to have any Work taken back by the Lender and will make reasonable efforts to return any such Work to the Lender. If such efforts are unsuccessful for any reason, the right of Indiana University East to require the Lender to withdraw such Work(s) shall accrue absolutely as of the date on which Indiana University East mails written notice to the Lender stating any of the following reasons:
a. it is declined by Indiana University East;
b. Indiana University East no longer desires the loan thereof; or
c. the loan period has terminated.
If the Lender shall not withdraw such Work(s) within sixty (60) days from the date of such notice, then Indiana University East shall have the absolute right to dispose of such Work(s) in any manner it may elect, and if it stores such Work(s), to charge regular storage fees therefor and to have and enforce a lien for such fees. 6. In the case of the death of Lender, his or her legal representative shall notify Indiana University East of his or her authority to act on Lender’s behalf by providing his or her full name and address and a certified copy of a document establishing his or her authority.
7. In the event that a Work is not to be returned to the original Lender, the ownership of the Work having meanwhile passed by sale, bequest, or gift, the new owner must establish, in advance of such return, his or her authority to receive it by documentation satisfactory to Indiana University East.
8. All cost for packing, crating, transporting and custom formalities will be borne by the Lender.
9. Unless the Lender expressly elects to maintain his or her own insurance, Indiana University will insure the Works wall-to-wall under the terms of its fine arts policy, for the amount stated on the face of this Loan Agreement, and for the duration of the Loan Agreement, while maintaining care and custody of the Works. The Indiana University fine arts policy contains the usual exclusions for loss or damage due to war, invasion, hostilities, rebellion, insurrection, confiscation by order of any Government or public authority, risks of contraband or illegal transportation and/or trade, nuclear damage, wear and tear, gradual deterioration, moths, vermin, acts of God and/or nature and for damages sustained due to and resulting from repairing, restoration or retouching process unless caused by fire and/or explosion. The Lender agrees that, in the event of loss or damage to any Work, recovery shall be limited to such amount, if any, as may be paid by the insurer, and hereby releases Indiana University from liability for any and all claims arising out of such loss or damage.
10. With respect to any Work that has been industrially fabricated and can be replaced to the (living) artist's specifications, Indiana University liability shall be limited to the cost of such replacement.
11. Indiana University East will exercise the same care in respect to the loan of the Works as it does in the safekeeping of comparable property of its own.
12. If damage or deterioration to any Work is noted, the Lender will be notified immediately.
13. Loaned Works shall remain in the condition in which they are received. They shall not be unframed, unglazed or removed from mats, mounts or bases, cleaned, repaired or transported in damaged condition, except with the express permission of the Lender to in writing or when the safety of the Work makes such action imperative.
