INTERSTATE
A national juried exhibit where I-90 meets I-82

Call Type: Exhibition
Eligibility: National
City: Ellensburg
State: Washington
Entry Deadline: August 31, 2019

Entry Fee: $35 fee for up to three submissions.
Event Dates: November 7—December 8, 2019

The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University, located in Ellensburg, Washington, will host the INTERSTATE juried exhibit. Proceeds from this national exhibition will support student scholarships in the CWU Department of Art + Design.

The exhibition is open to submissions in all media and subject matter; the artwork does not need to follow a particular theme. The subtitle, “where I-90 meets I-82” locates the exhibition in Ellensburg, Washington, and suggests the flow and exchange of artwork across geographic distances and boundaries.

The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery, founded in 1969, is dedicated to contemporary art exhibits and related outreach programs that enhance, engage, and challenge the viewer’s knowledge and understanding of art. The Gallery also presents artists and viewers alike with opportunities to explore culturally diverse ideas in an academic environment.

Juror Information:  Grace Kook-Anderson, Portland Art Museum
Grace Kook-Anderson was appointed The Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Northwest Art in January 2017. Prior to joining the museum, she was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Art in the school of Art + Design at Portland State University and worked as an independent curator and arts writer. From 2008 – 2015, Kook-Anderson was the Curator of Contemporary Art at Laguna Art Museum.

During her tenure at Laguna Art Museum, projects included a site-specific commission, An Elongated Now by Lita Albuquerque, for the museum’s 2nd Art & Nature festival. Kook-Anderson curated Best Kept Secret: UCI and the Development of Contemporary Art in Southern California, 1964-1971 in conjunction with Getty’s Pacific Standard Time initiative and produced the accompanying award-winning catalogue. Kook-Anderson received a dual B.A. degree in art history and art practice from the University of California, Berkeley, and received her M.A. degree in Curatorial Practice from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
