The Allegany Arts Council is pleased to announce a call for entry for A Stitch to Wear: Wearable Art Competition & Exhibition, a juried exhibition and sale of wearable art of all kinds: clothing, accessories, jewelry, hats, or any wearable items you create. This event will offer $1500 in cash prizes

We encourage makers to submit collections of similar works they will be prepared to exhibit and sell in our beautiful space in Cumberland, Maryland.
Artists may enter up to five items or groups of related items for one entry fee. Our staff will work with the admitted artists to determine the quantity of juried pieces to be included in the exhibition. This will allow for multiple items from the same artist to be displayed. Items may be worn by models in a live showcase during the Public Opening.

Renate Maile-Moskowitz, of Smithsonian Associates, will serve as juror for the exhibition, and brings a wealth of textile experience in felt-making, silk and sericulture production, plant dyeing, lace and paper-making. Although a Fulbright Scholarship in Dance brought her originally to the U.S., doors opened to her interests in textiles and costuming with the Washington National Opera.

Today, Maile-Moskowitz combines her love of fabrics and textiles with her equal passions for folklore, teaching, research, theater, storytelling and dance. She often works with schools, theaters, curators, and conservators to develop their ideas for presentation on stage, in the classroom, or for display.

The Allegany Arts Council will manage all sales from the exhibition, retaining a 35% commission.
