Arts Downtown is a multifaceted, national juried exhibition in historic downtown Frankfort, KY curated by Josephine Sculpture Park and the Franklin County Arts Council. We are seeking contemporary sculpture proposals for outdoor exhibit for two years. Proposals can be new or existing work created within the past 3 years. Artists working in a variety of materials are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to stone, metal, wood, concrete, found objects, natural materials, plastics, fiberglass, light, sound, etc. Sculptures should be physically and thematically suitable for exhibition in public spaces throughout the downtown business district of Frankfort, KY.

Up to five works will be selected for exhibition. Stipends of $2000 will be awarded to exhibiting artists. A purchase prize of $10,000 may be awarded. Works may be for sale during length of exhibition. Artists agree to a 30% donation to JSP from any sale (excluding purchase prize). Works will be installed in October, dates TBD. JSP will provide professional
installation of sculptures with crane service available TBD.

Requirements:
Works must be suitable for a hands-on outdoor exhibition in a public space.
Works must be a minimum of 4’ in at least one direction and no taller than 15’.
Artists may submit up to 3 works for consideration (separate application for each artwork).

DEADLINE to apply is July 15, 2019.

IMAGES/VIDEO:
-Submit 2-4 images of each work (showing all sides of the work)
-Include weight of sculpture if more than 1 ton
-Only submit images of works to be considered for this exhibition
-Installation requirements for each piece submitted. This can be a list, a narrative or a sketch, etc.
-If your work has sound or light components and/or is kinetic, please include a short video. No more than 3 min. 30 sec. is preferred.

DOCUMENTS:
Include the following information typed in a word document(s) or pdf:
-Include your name on the top page of all documents.
-Artist statement (1000 characters max.)
-Artist resume (5 pg max.)

Any works sold through JSP will assume artist’s consent to a 30% donation to JSP. 

JSP is a 30-acre park that opened in September 2009 on reclaimed farmland & is free & open 365 days per year. The mission of JSP is to provide community arts education & creative experiences while conserving the beauty of Kentucky’s native, rural landscape. Our commitments are to support the arts, inspire opportunities & expression, build a stronger,
healthier community & conserve the beauty of Kentucky's fine natural & cultural heritage through outdoor, creative activities. JSP is located 5 minutes from downtown Frankfort, 2 miles off I64 in Franklin Co, KY. Currently, nearly 50 works of art created by artists from across the globe (primarily large-scale outdoor contemporary sculpture) are on rotating
exhibition in the midst of native meadows at the park and at our Satellite Exhibition Spaces across Franklin County, KY.

Artist residency & exhibition programs support local & regional emerging, mid-career & professional artists through a unique, supported & equipped non-traditional space for large-scale outdoor sculpture & community artworks in central KY.
