The Emerald Art Center announces Photography at the Emerald: 4th Annual Autumn Exhibition - 2019, a juried fine art photography competition with more than $4000 in Cash Awards.

This juried photography exhibition was conceived to recognize and reward excellence in fine art photography from all over the United States, and augments the decades long Emerald Art Center National Juried Spring Exhibition for painters.

This year's Juror is Craig Hickman, Professor Emeritus, University of Oregon, Department of Art, and Founder and Member of the Board of Directors of Portland's Blue Sky Gallery. He will select up to 90 finalists for the exhibition, and prize winners from the accepted photographs, once the exhibition is installed. The exhibition will be on display to the hundreds of Emerald Art Center gallery from September 3rd to September 28, 2019.

Qualifying media include all genera of photography. If the final print includes one or more other mediums, it is considered mixed media and a statement of execution must be provided. The final print must be at least 50% an original photo image.

ENTRY DEADLINE:  Tuesday, July 30th, 2019.


NOTIFICATION TO ARTISTS:  Will be via email Sunday, August 4th, 2019.

Must be received no later than August 30th to be included in this show.  Ship accepted photographs to:

ARTIST'S RECEPTION:   Saturday, September 7th, 7-9 pm.

EXHIBITION DATES:  September 3rd through September 28th, 2019.

RETURN OF ARTWORK:  Shipped from Gallery by October 4th. Hand delivered pickup at the Gallery on Saturday, September 28th, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.

1. This is a juried photography competition open to all photographers residing in the United States.
2. All photographs shall be no larger than 42" in any direction (42"X 42") including frame.
3. Diptychs & triptychs must be contained in frames meet the total size requirements.
4. All entries are presented to the juror in an anonymous manner.
5. Accepted works may not be removed before the conclusion of the exhibition.

Accepted artwork must be shipped "installation ready."  All work must be framed with wire hangers or hanging cleats - no sawtooth hangers. Canvas wraps are acceptable, as long as they have a wire hanger or cleats on the back, and are "installation ready." Orientation or installation instructions for specialized hardware should be included with the work.  For any artwork that requires non-standard set up, please include detailed unpacking, hanging, or re-packing instructions.

2. The non-refundable entry is: 1 image for $35. Each additional image is $5, up to 4 images for $50. Each entry must be paid in full.
3. Photographers may submit up to four images per entry, but a maximum of two entries per artist will be included in the exhibition as selected by the juror.
4. Photographers whose work is accepted will receive shipping instructions via email.  All shipments must include a prepaid return shipping label and be shipped in a container appropriate for re-use in return shipping. Please, no styrofoam peanuts in packaging.
5. A $25 handling fee is assessed for shipped artwork, $10 for hand-delivered.
6. Accepted work which differs significantly from the image provided will be rejected.
7. Photographs must be for sale. Emerald Art Center retains 35% commission.
8. No price change may be made after entries are accepted.

Artwork and entry materials will be handled with all possible care while in the possession of the Emerald Art Center.  Emerald Art Center is not responsible for artwork while in transit. Artists must carry their own insurance if desired.  Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance of artwork.
