Alternative processes include, but are not limited to: Albumen, Cyanotype, Van
Dyke Brown, Platinum/Palladium, Gum Bichromate, Bromoil, Salt Print, Tintype,
Ziatype, Daguerreotype, Image Transfers, Liquid Emulsion, Photogravure Chemigram as well as handmade prints created from digital negatives. Traditional Silver Gelatin Prints,
C-Prints and Digital Prints are not eligible. There is no limitation as to subject matter.The competition is open to all photographers age 18 or older, excluding members of Soho Photo Gallery.
This year's juror is Christopher James an internationally known artist and photographer
whose photographs, alternative process printmaking and paintings have been exhibited
in galleries and museums in this country and abroad. All three editions of James' book The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes have received international critical acclaim and are universally recognized by artists, curators, historians and educators
as the definitive text in the genre of alternative process photography and photographically
integrated media. He has published extensively in Aperture, Camera (Switzerland) and American Photographer. After 13 years teaching at Harvard University, James is presently
University Professor and Director of the MFA program in Photography and Integrated
Media at Lesley University College of Art and Design in Cambridge, Mass. He is also a painter, graphic designer, and professional scuba diver.
