CarolinaEast Medical Center (“CarolinaEast”) has served residents of New Bern and eastern North Carolina since 1962, providing award-winning healthcare to over 401,000 people a year.  Scheduled to open in January 2020, the SECU Comprehensive Cancer Center and Alyward Diagnostic Center (collectively “Cancer Center”) will consolidate diagnostic, treatment and recovery offerings that are currently fragmented throughout the service area.  In addition to new facilities, programs, and support options, CarolinaEast seeks to enhance their new facility with large scale works by North Carolina artists.  Work will be reviewed by a panel of artists, designers, and community leaders with at least three pieces selected for purchase and permanently displayed in the Cancer Center.  The Call for Entries process will be operated by Craven Arts Council & Gallery. Submissions will be categorized by which purchase award the artist wishes the piece to be eligible for. Available spaces for work range from 4’x4’ to 18’x5’, with many of the spaces sized for 8’x4’ works.  While there is no theme, the current design plans call for a palette of blues, greens, and earth tones representative of Eastern North Carolina land and seascapes.  Pieces will be selected that enrich the interior décor of the space, provide a calming sense of being and appeal to a broad audience.

Submissions may be a single piece, multiple pieces of a series (including diptych and triptychs), and installation works. Artists may submit up to 5 pieces for $20.

Categories and Submissions:

Artists may submit up for 5 pieces for $20.  Entries will be categorized by which purchase award the artist wishes to submit the piece for and may be a single piece, multiple pieces of a related series (including diptych and triptych), or an installation sized to the space.  If a single submission includes multiple pieces please include all works arranged as they are intended to be displayed in one image for the submission.  If multiple entries contain the same pieces please include such information in the description of the pieces. All work must be at least 3’x3’ or larger. Maximum size is 18’x5’, horizontally oriented. CarolinaEast is especially seeking large scale works to help fill identified spaces within the Cancer Center.

While there is no theme to the exhibition, submissions will be graded on several guiding principles, including:

1)      Artistic Merit

2)      Longevity, requiring minimal upkeep or maintenance

3)      Integration into current architectural and interior design layouts & colors (current design plans call for a palette of blues, greens, and earth tones representative of Eastern North Carolina land and seascapes)

4)      Ability to fulfill therapeutic goals of redirection and distraction for patients and families

              Category A: $1000 Purchase Award

              Category B: $2500 Purchase Award

Awards: CarolinaEast Medical Center (“CarolinaEast”) will purchase a minimum of three works from the exhibition with the option to purchase additional works. The guaranteed award amounts are one $2500 purchase award and two $1000 purchase award.  Artists will be asked to select which purchase awards they would like their works to be eligible for.
