Call for artwork relating to the concept of Passage, moving through something on the way from one place to another. Interpretations may be literal, as in a portal, or journey. Or metaphorical, as in emotional change, rites of passage, personal growth and transition. Passage also relates to a passage in a piece of music, a passage in a book, or a passage in time. 

All media considered which comply with the size limitation, 24” in any one direction including frame. All media considered except video/audio, performance and installation.

Entry fee: $35 for up to three submissions

JUROR:

Gwen Chanzit is Curator Emerita of Modern Art and the Herbert Bayer Collection and Archive at the Denver Art Museum, and is Professor of the Practice and Director of Museum Studies in Art History at the University of Denver.

Over her 36-plus years at the Denver Art Museum, Dr. Chanzit organized more than 30 exhibitions. Some highlights were Figure to Field, Mark Rothko in the 1940sHerbert Bayer: Berlin Graphics 1928-1938, Fracture: Cubism and After,  Joan Miró: Instinct and ImaginationStarring Linda: A Trio of John DeAndrea SculpturesOverthrown: Clay Without Limits, Herbert Bayer: New York and Aspen Paintings 1938-1974Gunther Gerzso: A Mexican Master, and Abstract Expressionism from the Denver Art Museum.

Her major curatorial project, Women of Abstract Expressionism, opened at the Denver Art Museum in June 2016 and was on tour for a year. This traveling exhibition received much positive attention in the national and international press. Its comprehensive catalogue is now into its fifth printing.

Dr. Chanzit is regarded as the world expert on Bauhaus artist Herbert Bayer; she has published several books highlighting Bayer’s wide-ranging artistic contributions. 

VENUE/LOCATION

Niza Knoll Gallery, celebrating it’s tenth year, specializing in intriguing conceptual exhibits. The gallery is located in Denver's Historic Arts District on Santa Fe, hosting first and third Friday events, monthly salons, private concerts and guest speakers.

BEST OF SHOW/HONORABLE MENTIONS

Cash prizes and a copy of the exhibition catalog will be presented to one artist for best of show ($200) and three ($100) honorable mentions will be awarded with copies of the exhibition catalog. The awards will be announced on the opening date of the show, as selected by the Juror. 

EXHIBITION CATALOG

An exhibition catalog will be available for sale after the show opens.

DEADLINE

The deadline to enter for consideration in this show is midnight (MST) Friday,  October 11, 2019. No late applications will be considered. 

NOTIFICATION

Results of the judging will be emailed by the week of October 14, 2019

EXHIBITION DATES

Accepted work will be exhibited at Niza Knoll Gallery in Denver, CO from Wednesday, November 13, 2019 – Saturday December 21, 2019. Opening reception Friday, November 15, 2019.

SHOW FEES

$35 flat fee for up to three art pieces/images. Entry fees may be paid by credit card only through callforentry.org. Fees are non-refundable and do not guarantee acceptance in the exhibition. 

ELIGIBILITY

The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years and older. All work must be original in concept and not copied from another artist's work. 

No installations or artwork that requires special technical installation or intensive assembly will be accepted.

Only entries submitted online through Callforentry.org will be considered. Do not contact gallery to submit images or information for your application, unless more information has been requested. Entries are limited to a maximum of three works.

All notifications will be sent by email through Callforentry.org.  These emails occasionally end up in one's spam/junk box. Please add the Callforentry.org email address to your address book.

ACCEPTED WORK

Accepted artists will receive instructions for shipping and hand delivery. Shipping and return shipping costs and insurance are the responsibility of the artist. For shipped work, reusable shipping containers only. The WCA encourages artists to insure their artwork when shipping, and we strongly encourage using Plexiglass for shipped work. Shipped work accepted up until Friday, November 8, 2019. Shipping address will be sent to accepted artists.

No packing peanuts allowed. Any shipped artwork found with packing peanuts will not be unpacked, displayed, or eligible for an award. All shipped artwork must include a pre-paid return-shipping label.  Work will be held until a pre-paid label is provided.

Artists may hand-deliver accepted artwork to Niza Knoll Gallery on November 11, 2019, from 11AM-1:00PM.

SPECIFICATIONS

All works accepted for the exhibition must be original, completed, and ready to hang. Substitutions of accepted works will not be allowed and all delivered work must match the image juried.

Frames, mats, and wiring must be professional quality and in good condition. Wiring must be substantial enough for the weight of the artwork. No sawtooth hangers. All paintings must be framed or gallery wrapped with fully painted edges. Two-dimensional works on paper must be framed.

Accepted artwork may not be removed from Niza Knoll Gallery prior to the close of the exhibition.

SALES

Any artwork sold to the public will incur a 40% commission. Prices quoted on the entry form may not be changed after acceptance, please adjust price accordingly.   Buyer will be charged sales tax for Denver. 

Artwork that is "Not for Sale" - Please add NFS to the description box of the artwork in question.

Artists will be notified by email of any sales, and will receive payment for any sold works within one month of the close of the exhibition. 

PICK UP

Art must be picked up on Saturday December 21, after 3:45PM and before 5:15 PM. Shipped work will be packaged and shipped to artists the week of December 23rd, 2019.
