2019 marks 50 years since the inception of the Society of North American Goldsmiths. From traditional goldsmiths to alternative material-smiths, from bench jewelers to educators, SNAG’s membership spans an extensive population of makers. This year’s membership exhibition will celebrate the diversity and growth of the organization over the last 50 years.

Jurors:

SIENNA PATTI

Sienna Patti founded Sienna Patti Contemporary in 1998 and specializes in contemporary studio jewelry and artists that use craftsmanship as an intellectual and structural vehicle for their ideas. A leading figure in studio jewelry, Patti has lectured and presented artists and designers in major museums and exhibitions around the world. As an appraiser and dealer, she continues to place artists in public and private collections.

TAISHA CARRINGTON

Taisha Carrington is a multidisciplinary artist creating work in New York and Barbados. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute where she began developing a body of work consisting of installations, sculpture and contemporary jewelry.

Her work investigates the liminality of the Caribbean immigrant life, land occupation and healing of Caribbean bodies post colonialism. Taisha creates ‘devices’ and performances for self healing and facilitation of social dialogue about generational trauma while proposing methods for rebirth, reclamation, and the reimagining of the value of afro Caribbean bodies and communities.

Taisha was named ‘One for the future’ by the inaugural New York City Jewelry Week and was selected as a CFDA+ Design Graduate. She recently presented as an Early Career artist at the 50th Society of North American Goldsmith’s (SNAG) Conference and the Museum of Art and Design. Most recently Taisha has completed an artist residency at Chautauqua Institution where she further explored less traditional forms of body adornment to expand her relationship with jewelry and build more bridges between art jewelry and fine art disciplines.
