John Seed is a Professor Emeritus of art and art history at Mt. San Jacinto College and the author of "Disrupted Realism." Seed has written about art and artists for Arts of Asia, Art Ltd., Harvard Magazine, International Artist, The HuffingtonPost and Hyperallergic.com He was a featured expert in the Google Arts and Culture video series "Name That Art" and currently serves on the board of the Sam Francis Foundation. 

Buckham Gallery invites you to enter Disrupted Realism, a national juried exhibition established to explore contemporary painting that challenges the traditional concepts of realism. “It is a subjective approach to painting that favors perception over seeing and embraces subjectivity,” John Seed, author of Disrupted Realism.  April 9 - May 15, 2021

Featured Artist: Anne Harris

    Anne Harris, featured in John Seed’s book, “Disrupted Realism,” has exhibited at venues ranging from Alexandre Gallery, DC Moore Gallery and Nielsen Gallery, to the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institute, The Portland Museum of Art, the California Center for Contemporary Art and the North Dakota Museum of Art. Her work is in such public collections as The Fogg Museum at Harvard, The Yale University Art Gallery and The New York Public Library. Grants and awards received include a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and an NEA Individual Artists Fellowship. Represented by Alexandre Gallery, New York, NY

Submission: $20 for 3 images, $5 for each additional image up to 6

This exhibition will open April 9, 2021 at Buckham Gallery, in Flint, Michigan.

Details:

  • Each artist may submit 3 works for $20, $5 for each additional image

  • All work must be original in concept

  • Submitted images of work must represent its true appearance and not be altered digitally

  • Artist must be 18 years of age or older

  • Artist must be a resident of the USA

  • Submissions must be entered through CaFE by September 15, 2020. Artists will be notified by October 15, 2020. 

Fees:

  • The entry fee is $20, 3 works may be submitted for that fee, $5 for each additional image up to a maximum of 6 images

  • All fees must be paid by credit card or PayPal through CaFE site payment platform

  • The entry fee is non refundable, even if shipped works arrive damaged

Selected Work:

  • Selected works must be delivered to Buckham Gallery by April 2, 2021

  • Artists must cover the cost to transport the artwork to and from the gallery

  • All work selected for the exhibition must arrive ready to install. Works not gallery-ready, or not exhibiting good craftsmanship, may be omitted from the exhibit

  • Accepted work that differs significantly from the submitted images or suffers from poor presentation, will be disqualified. Please note that professional-level presentation is a must

  • Work may be hand delivered or shipped. Shipped works must be sent in easily reusable packaging. No packing peanuts!

  • All shipped work must be properly prepared and packed for transport. Upon receipt of work, boxes will be opened and condition of work will be recorded. Damaged work will not be accepted. Gallery is not responsible for works damaged in transport. 

  • All works will be insured during the exhibition.

  • Gallery retains a 35% commission on sales.

Prizes:

  • First prize, $750; Second prize, $500; Third prize, $250

  • Awards will be selected  by juror, John Seed, once the show is installed

  • Artists will be notified immediately of awards
