VSU Call for Artists for Solo or Group Shows 2020-2021 and 2021-2022

Valdosta State University (VSU) Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery (Valdosta, Georgia) is reviewing artists for two curated shows, and proposals for solo and small group exhibitionfor the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years.   Artists 18+ are invited to apply; all media will be considered. Artwork is insured while in the gallery and the gallery takes no sales commission.

Artists may propose a solo exhibition, a small group exhibition, or ask to be considered for inclusion in the following  exhibition curated by a VSU faculty member:

Southern Ladies

Southern ladies have often been expected to uphold regional traditions and radiate a certain feminine grace. While the phrase conjures up images of hoop-skirted hostesses, this group show reflects on what it means to be a "Southern lady" in the 21st century. With a satirical edge, the exhibition seeks to reconsider gender norms in a regional context by looking at the intersection of feminism, femininity, and Southern identity.

To apply, upload 5-20 images, (up to 6 videos if relevant,) and include a short description of your proposed exhibition with a list of all participating artists (for self-organized small group exhibitions.) Include artist statement(s,) artist CV(s) and describe any expenses that you would like/need covered by the Gallery (e.g., shipping of artwork.) Some stipend money may be available to help with expenses, depending on circumstances and Gallery budget.

Please indicate if you would like your work considered for Southern Ladies. This is not a juried show, but you may be invited to show if we feel your work fits with the particular theme of the exhibition.

Note: The Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery hosts 8 exhibitions per academic year; 3 of the time slots are open for visiting artists, per this call for proposals.  Images by accepted artists may be used for educational and promotional purposes by the Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery.
