The Durbin Gallery, located in the Kennedy Art Center at Birmingham-Southern College,
announces a spring 2020 exhibition considering the centennial ratification of the 19 th
amendment, which barred states from denying voting rights based on gender.

Self-identified women artists whose practices consider the connections between the legacy and pursuit of gender equity, political memory, intersectional feminist histories, organized and
grassroots protest, social change, and voter access/suppression are of interest. Artists and cultural producers exploring the marginalization of and discrimination against women of color in relation to suffrage are especially encouraged to apply.

Coinciding with Women’s History Month, the exhibition will run from March 6th through March 26th, 2020 and will be guest curated by Lindsey O’Connor.

will be considered, including but not limited to 2D, 3D, sound, video, performance, installation, time-based, research-based, speculative projects, and public programs. All submissions will be reviewed in the order they are received by Birmingham-Southern studio art faculty and the guest curator.
