Open Call for Entries:  A Juried National Art Competition and Show

A juried open call for the Madeley National, hosted by the Conroe Art League, 127 Simonton Street, Conroe, Texas, located in the greater Houston area. This unique TWO CATEGORY competition features seven cash prizes totalling $6000. 

PAINTING/DRAWING (Category #1): Painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor) and Drawing (graphite, colored pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, pastel).

ALL OTHER MEDIA (Category #2):  Mixed Media, Photography, Digital Art, Printmaking, Experimental Art, Sculpture, Studio Fine Crafts (Except Jewelry). 

Entrants may enter artwork into one or both categories, not to exceed six (6) total entries per applicant. 

Jurors: 

Karen Vernon, juror for PAINTING/DRAWING (Category #1), http://karenvernon.com. Karen has worked in multi-media (watercolor, oil, acrylic and pastels) for over 50 years and has taught workshops throughout the US, Canada and Europe for more than 30 years. Her paintings have earned notable awards and developed a worldwide market. She is a member of Who’s Who in American Art and holds signature memberships in several prestigious art societies. Karen Vernon is co-owner of The Gallery at Round Top in Round Top, Texas and teaches art business and painting workshops across the nation. 

Jennifer Perlow, juror for ALL OTHER MEDIA (Category #2)http://psartconsulting.com. The Arts play a central role in Jennifer Perlow’s life and work. As principal of PS Art Consulting, Jennifer helps her client’s tell their stories through art.  She has spent the past 15 years as a curator, consultant, and leader in the arts community. Through her experience as owner of PS Gallery, and as a consultant with firms like H&P Consultants and Lewis Graham Art Consultants, Jennifer has built a national network of artists to help her clients find exactly what they are looking for. Jennifer has had the pleasure of jurying a number of art shows, fairs, and festivals over the last 15 years.

Eligibility: Artists of all levels who are at least 18 years or older are invited to enter. Artwork must be an original creation by the artist. No submission is to be the result of a collaboration or team effort. The artwork submitted may not have received a place or honorable mention award in a previous CAL National juried show. Limit of one prize per artist per category.

Artwork: Open to all forms of visual art except jewelry. All work must be exhibition ready: 2d art must be framed or gallery wrapped with painted edges, no saw-tooth hangers please. Work that does not follow the guidelines or is deemed not to be a faithful representation of the image submitted, will not be exhibited. By submitting artwork for consideration, the artist agrees that eligible artwork will be available for exhibition in the CAL Gallery at the Madeley during the entire exhibition (March 5-28, 2020). An alternate artwork may not be substituted for an eligible artwork, and there may not be a price or title change to an eligible artwork.

Entry Fee:  Artists may submit up to 6 images. The entry fee is $35 for the first image and $15 for each subsequent image, up to 6 total image entries. All CAFE fees are non-refundable and must be paid by credit/debit card through CAFE.  Payment of those fees indicates the acknowledgement of the terms and conditions of the exhibition. Juror’s decisions are final. 

Size Limit: Maximum size 48"x48” including the frame (this applies to diptych and triptych works). 2d artwork is not to exceed 25lbs. The maximum size for 3D artwork is 30”WX30”DX48”H, and weight is not to exceed 40lbs. 

In-Person Delivery of Accepted Work: In-person deliveries will be accepted February 11-25, 2020, Tuesday - Saturday 10:30 am-5:30 pm. The Gallery at the Madeley is located at 127 Simonton Street, Conroe, Texas 77301.

Shipment of Accepted Work:  Shipped deliveries should be scheduled to arrive between February 11-25, 2020. Shipped work must be accompanied by a prepaid, return label. No Packing Peanuts please. Make sure that you label your work on the back with your name or name on the shipping label if different. 

Return of Work: For artists who delivered their art in-person, pickup will be March 28th, 2020, 10:30 am-3 pm; March 30, 2020 from 1-5 pm; and March 31 from 10:30 am-5 pm.

Shipped art will be returned in the packaging in which it was sent using the provided prepaid return shipping label. The artist is solely responsible for any charges that may arise from inadequate packaging, or redirected shipments. Artwork not returned or claimed after 30 days becomes the property of CAL. 

Sales & Commissions: The Conroe Art League retains a 20% donation on works sold. All artwork must remain in the gallery through the final day of the show and all sales must come through CAL.

Liability/Legal:

Waiver:  Submission of work automatically waives any claim for damage or loss against the Conroe Art League (CAL), including the officers, members, and employees. CAL will exercise all reasonable care in handling entries but will not assume any liability for loss or damage while in CAL’s possession or in transit. Work should be independently insured by the artist.

Usage Rights: The artist retains the copyright to the images submitted. By submitting image(s) you are giving CAL the right to use the images for the purpose of marketing the exhibition and for reproduction online. Artists grant the use of their image(s) as stated without further contact or compensation from CAL. Artist’s recognition is provided with any use. Submitting artists will be added to CAL email subscriber list. They may opt out by emailing the5thnational@gmail.com. CAL reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.  Payment of the submission fee indicates acknowledgement of all terms and conditions.
