The 21st OnPoint Community Credit Union Oregon WinterFest returns for its 21st year, February 14-16th, the largest winter festival in the west! It also marks the eighth year for the Fire Pit & Sculpture Competition — which we've expanded to the Light, Ice & Fire Exposition this year with the addition of Central Oregon Light Art exhibition.

The Fire Pit and Fire Sculpture Competition at Oregon WinterFest is a dynamic display of both functional (fire pits) and imaginative (fire sculptures) use of fire as a medium creating warmth, light and excitement which has become a favorite destination for attendees at Oregon WinterFest.

Artists are invited to submit images of previous work for consideration of inclusion in 2020 Oregon WinterFest. After being juried into the festival, artists are eligible to be considered for (1) $5,000 purchase award and public placement, and cash prizes for 1st ($500), 2nd ($250) & 3rd ($150) place in both categories.

Lay It Out Events, the producer of Oregon WinterFest, offers 10 fellowships for artists traveling from outside of Central Oregon to participate. This fellowship includes 3 nights lodging, a $100 gas stipend and a combination of Food Vouchers onsite and also cash to offset additional costs. Indicate in your application if you are also applying for a fellowship.

The Oregon WinterFest committee will review all images of existing work and invite accepted artists to create up to three fire pits or fire sculptures for inclusion in Oregon WinterFest 2020. Existing fire pits or sculptures may also be considered. All entries will be available for sale.

The competition is divided into 2 categories: Fire Pit and Fire Sculpture. The criteria for each category are:
Fire Pit: Designed and constructed to be used principally as a heat source and gathering point in a residential or commercial setting. Typically, although not exclusively wood fueled
Fire Sculpture: A sculptural piece incorporating fire, any fuel source.

Submissions must include:
• A drawing of an original piece you propose to build (if not already existing)
• 2-3 images of current work (if you have been accepted to this event in the past, you do not need to include images of current work)
• An artist bio (please email an artist portrait to isaac@layitoutevents.com, if accepted)
• Proposed work can be fabricated in any non-flammable material
• Work must be an original design, and (preferably) constructed specifically for this event. Existing work also considered.
• Submissions must include a non-flammable barrier which will protect installation turf from scorching

Sale of work: all proceeds from competition submitted works sold or commissioned onsite belong to the artist, we do not take any commission. A 25% commission will be taken for work sold within the L.I.F.E. Gallery.
