You are invited to artwork utilizing any textile- or fiber-based techniques to Intertwined 2020: Contemporary Southeastern Fiber Art, a survey of the best contemporary fiber art in the Southeast.  The exhibition will showcase a wide range of content, material, and techniques with the common threads of craftsmanship and passion.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists working in one or more fiber techniques and living in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee.

LOCATION:   Quinlan Visual Arts Center, 514 Green Street NE, Gainesville, Ga 30501. The show will then travel to the Turner Center for the Arts, 527 North Patterson St., Valdosta, GA 31601.

  • July 29, 2020 – Turner Center for the Arts Exhibition Closes
  • July 30-31, 2020 – Pickup/return of exhibited work
AWARDS:  The juror will select the following awards:
  • 1st Place - $800
  • 2nd Place - $500
  • 3rd Place - $300
  • Two Honorable Mentions - Ribbons

JUROR: Dorothy Moye has worked as an artist’s agent, art consultant, curator, and administrator for more than 25 years. Over the years she has marketed and sold artwork to corporate and private clients; has curated and organized exhibitions for not-for-profit galleries, corporate, and public spaces; has documented major collections, and has organized and managed events and conferences. Moye holds membership in numerous arts and civic organizations, both local and national, and this involvement in both volunteer and professional activities has helped to build her base of knowledge and resources. She graduated cum laude from UNC–Greensboro with a BA in Sociology and from North Carolina State University in Raleigh with an MS, also in Sociology. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Submit one artwork per entry.
  • Submit up to two entries (go through the entire entry process for your first artwork and then, optionally, go through the entire entry process again for your second artwork).
  • Submitted work must utilize at least one textile- or fiber-based technique (interlaced, felted, stitched, dyed, coiled, knotted, printed, spun, woven, etc.) and can be of any material.
  • Submitted work must be original in design and completed since January 1, 2018.
  • Accepted work must remain on exhibit through July 29, 2020, with no exceptions.
  • Nudes and figure studies are acceptable. Images of graphic violence, specific political agenda, and/or pornography will not be accepted.
  • Work must not weigh over 50 pounds including any mounting hardware and/or armature. 
  • Photographic images should accurately represent your work.
    • Include an overall view with up to two additional detail images for clarification. (Minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 images per entry.)
    • Image files may be color corrected to accurately represent the work, but not enhanced in any way.
    • Image editing is limited to cropping and adding or modifying a solid background of white, black or gray.
  • Additional entry requirements:
    • Brief artist statement (less than 1,000 characters).
    • The non-refundable application fee. Online payments via credit card or PayPal will be accepted. (SEFAA members be sure to enter the coupon code emailed to you separately to receive your $5 entry fee discount.)
ENTRY SUBMISSION:
  • Entries must be submitted through CaFÉ™.
  • Please visit the CaFÉ™ Help For Artists page for complete instructions on how to create a free  CaFÉ™ account and information about image preparation and uploading.
SELECTION:
  • The juror’s decision is final.
  • If accepted work differs dramatically from the images submitted, the work will be returned to the artist and will not be included in the exhibition.
  • The substitution of artwork will not be allowed.
SHIPPING:
  • All shipping and shipping insurance costs are the responsibility of the artist.
  • Label all packing materials with your name.
  • Work will be returned in the packing in which it was received.
  • Include pre-paid return postage and shipping insurance labels or a check, payable to the Turner Visual Arts Center, with your shipment.  If return shipping is not included, you will be responsible for picking up your work in Valdosta, GA.
DELIVERY:
  • Accepted work must arrive at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center by 5 pm on April 10, 2020.
  • Work may be sent by the artist's desired carrier OR it may be hand-delivered to the Quinlan Visual Arts Center the week of April 6th (April 6-10, 2020) from 9 am – 5 pm.
INSTALLATION AND EXHIBITION:
  • Accepted work must be received ready to display.
    • Include all display hardware with clear installation instructions.
    • Consider sending photos with installation instructions.
    • Pedestals will be provided, but you must supply any special mounts required.
    • A few mannequins will be available for your use. Please indicate in your entry if you need one to display your entry.
    • Accepted work must have a label attached to the back or base that includes your name, email, phone number, title, and price/NFS and an indication of the top of the work.
  • Two-dimensional work will hang against walls.  Three-dimensional work will be free-standing or placed on pedestals.
  • Installation entries will be considered only if you commit to installing and un-installing your entry at both venues.
SALES:
  • Sales of exhibited work are allowed.
  • Both venues will take a commission on sales (Quinlan = 40% and Turner = 30%), so price your work accordingly.  
  • If you choose, you may donate any portion of the sales proceeds to SEFAA (a 501(c)(3) charity) to help establish a prize fund for future fiber exhibitions.
  • Work offered for sale will be sold as exhibited.
  • Sold work must remain on exhibit through July 29, 2020.
INSURANCE: The galleries will insure all work displayed during the exhibition.  The artist is responsible for insuring their work during transport/delivery.
