Summary

Adventist HealthCare System announces a Call for Artists for exterior artwork for White Oak Medical Center. Budget – approximately $50,000
Budget includes but is not limited to artist fees design, fabrication, and delivery, installation, taxes, insurance, documentation of artwork, as well as subcontracted services and travel. Budget includes both the sculpture and pedestal if necessary. Budget does not include structural footing.

Mission Statement
We extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.

Statement of Intent
“At Adventist HealthCare, we extend God’s care by recognizing the infinite worth of each individual. Every human being, no matter their condition, gender, identity, race, age, nationality, socioeconomic status, faith or sexual orientation, will receive equitable health care and be treated with respect and dignity. We commit to hold ourselves to the highest standards of speech and conduct toward all individuals with whom we interact.”
-- “Learning from the Experience of Lucy Byard” by Terry Forde, President & CEO

Project description
The artwork will be located in the front entrance courtyard of the White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring MD. The memorial was originally envisioned as a portrait bust based on historical photographs of Lucille Byard, to be installed on a pedestal. However, artists may propose other approaches and interpretations, including non-representational compositions in any media.
The artwork must accord with the site conditions, including the scale and space of the front entrance courtyard. The selected artist will collaborate with the landscape architect to properly locate, orient, and illuminate the sculpture within the space of the courtyard, and to prepare the structural footing or other site conditions.
Artwork must be suitable for outdoor weather conditions. A variety of media will be considered; however, the work must be durable, sustainable, and very easy to maintain.
