Without a doubt, the earth is a wondrous creation. From its barren deserts to lush tropical rain forests; from the swelling oceans to cloudy skies... this land provides endless inspirations for visual artists. Every where we cast our gaze on to the different spaces of this Earth, we are met by multitudes of colors found in the palette of Nature. Artists continue to find endless inspiration in the mysterious beauty of nature and the grandeur of the earth's varied landscapes as they have throughout the history of art. Deeply entrenched in a long and storied history, contemporary landscape artists also contend with the future—"a future saddled with global warming and environmental catastrophe, as well as our increasingly virtual spaces. Maybe the genre is more vital now than it every has been."
Landscape paintings also aren't necessarily limited to depictions of land. For example, they can also include images of seascapes, cloudscapes, skyscapes, riverscapes, or cityscapes (otherwise known as "urban landscapes"). The main unifying element of any of these -scape artworks is that they all center around some kind of scenery.
