ABOUT COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY AND THE CENTER FOR REFLECTION

Founded in 1925, Colorado Mesa University is a comprehensive regional public higher education institution offering liberal arts, professional, and technical programs at the master's, bachelors, associate and certificate levels.

Colorado Mesa University takes great pride in providing educational opportunities and tools that help students succeed in today's complex and interconnected world. CMU’s focus is on providing quality academic programs, built on a strong liberal arts core that support students' interests and regional employment needs, as well as technical programs that respond to vocational workforce demands. Today, enrollment exceeds 11,044 students. The university offers more than 70 undergraduate programs of study along with graduate programs in business administration, education and nursing. Campus expansion to accommodate an ever-growing student body has resulted in state-of-the-art learning facilities on nearly 100 acres in the heart of Grand Junction, Colorado. Nestled between mountains and high-desert canyons, the area is home to some of the best outdoor recreation in the country and enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year.

Over the years, students have communicated the need for a campus sanctuary. Colorado Mesa University (CMU) is supporting the needs of its student body through the construction of the CMU Center for Reflection in the west-central zone of the main campus in Grand Junction. The Center is a non-denominational, inter-faith facility that will allow students to reflect, contemplate and celebrate life. The Center is the latest exciting project to transform campus and maintain CMU as a leading university when it comes to serving and representing the diverse needs and values of students.

A number of candle light vigils, prayer circles and memorial services occur on campus every year. These events reflect a need for students to have a place both to grieve during life’s challenges and to relish in its joys. The sanctuary will be placed in the Center of Reflection. The Center is designed to help make the campus sanctuary stand out in a way that helps address the spiritual needs of students now and in the future. The center will include a courtyard, water feature and thoughtful landscaping.
