Call for Entries for “Meaning in Abstraction” Exhibit at R Gallery

Deadline Extended to June 28th.

Abstract art is considered “art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality, but instead uses shapes, colors, forms, and gestural marks to achieve its effect.” Abstract art allows for great freedom of expression both in the creation and experience of the work for the artist and the viewer. The word “abstract” can be further understood to mean “expressing a quality apart from an object.”

R Gallery invites artists to submit their work for the “Meaning in Abstraction” exhibit with these ideas in mind. For this show, we are seeking artwork that is not only abstract in form, but that likewise expresses that “quality apart” in the work itself: work that is imbued with and conveys meaning - whether of an essential idea, quality, feeling, or tone - from the ineffable or undefinable to the more immediate, direct, and concrete. We are looking for work that holds more than simply a pure aesthetic of abstraction, but that also moves, inspires and activates the heart, mind, and soul.

“Meaning in Abstraction” runs from August 4th - September 13th, and is open to all mediums.
